Matija Saša Lučić
Respected and well known spirtologist at Cathquoile University.
"Myself? You want me to talk about myself? Well, I born Buska in 783 and raised by a brilliant mother who was, herself, an academic. When I was just the small age of 13 we moved to Cathquoile. Now, with the help of my mother, I was enrolled in the University by 16, something I am very proud of to this day..." - Matija Saša Lučić on the subject of himself when interviewed by the Vista Herald after the publication of his book Hidden Corners. This ramble went on for quite some time.Matija is a well known, eccentric, and passionate academic from Cathquoile university. He’s multidisciplinary, showing great talents since his early studies in a variety of areas: chemistry, biology, ecology, geology, climatology, physics, and emerging oceanic disciplines. He’s also shared his musing in philosophy, literature, music, and art, all of which he has shown a reverent respect for. However, he’s recently found his passions in the spiritology field: the study of the core forces that make the foundations of the Alkgnir. He has, many times, declared this is the discipline that will take him to retirement. Many people close to Matija, whether the relationships be working or personal, describe him in a similar way. Passionate to the point of force, intelligent to the point self inflated, and foolish to the point of farce. You will rarely find anyone in Alkgnir who is talked about so consistently regardless of who is talking.
And talked about he is. Matija boasts an enviable amount of connections. Whether that be in the far flung reaches of the Ice Flats, the depths of Zolognara's bogs, the grassland ranges of west Yulca, or the varied capital of his home, Buska. If you need a certain person with an expertise, trade, or knowledge, there’s a chance Matija knows at least one person to snowball your query. Despite his varied network he seems to be doing an excellent job of staying out of conflicts. There’s whisperings he has connections across conflicts: both within the Dawnbreakers and Sun Guard, or the Lu’vah and the Sad’ri. How he vows this line is a mystery to most, and many have chosen willing to simply not query it.
His most famous household contribution to Alkgnir was his memoir Hidden Corners. This recounts an expedition he went on throughout his 50s, meticulously recording every anchored spirit and their facets. He was the first to identify a Vula storm chaser - something previously argued to not exist - has records of every storm that was current at the time, and records all the eccentricities of how people display their particular spirit. The book is famous for one particular incident. Memoirs are rarely, by nature, revised. But Hidden Corners has been revised twice. The second revision of the book is the one now widely found throughout the continent, where the section covering the Valia spirit is filled with essays from other Valia scholars: from Jalila Zaman of the Eyadu to Leyla Nejem from Terakreft’s Trading Guild.
The first version, however, features the section on Valia with only one sentence: “SANDS ARE VERY BRIGHT. CANNOT SEE. Revise later”. About 100 versions of this book are in existence, as when the error was noticed, it was quickly recalled from the printing presses. Most recent of his movements are rumours of a new study he is embarking on with a focus on monsters. He intends to document each one and link their occurrences to… Something. Like most of his projects, the details are only vaguely known by fellow academics, and certainly not the general public. And it seems most of that data he has no intention to collect himself, hiring a group of monster hunters to go it instead.

History
Matija outlined his history with Noelle once to Kerasi. Having met in their 20s intitally, Noelle made an impression on Matija for his introversion. They didn't click on this meeting, but a decade passed and Matija needed men to enter one feared pass in Yulca. Noelle was around, and agreed. According to Matija, they've been inseperable since - and even though Noelle will grumble, he won't disagree.

"Please don't make me talk about him." - Fellow academic Vita Stolo's short statement to the Vista Herald following the publication of Hidden Corners
