Werebeast

Werebeasts are one of many species that occupy Alithia.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The anatomy varies between the sub-species within the werebeast community. In human forms, the werebeast anatomy is similar to the anatomy of humans. Excluding merfolk, there will be some differences in their anatomy compared to a human; especially as their secondary gender - i.e alpha, beta, and omega - presents itself. One distinguishing characteristic of werebeasts is something they possess from birth - two different types of glands: scent and mating glands. The scent glands are located on specific parts of their body such as the wrists, ankles, stomach area, either side of the neck (usually behind or near the ears), and above the tail bones. Scent glands emit a distinct odor unique to the individual, usually an odor akin to cologne or perfume. These scent glands correlate to the werebeast's emotions; meaning that if their emotions change, so will their scent according to their current mood. The alteration in their scents assists other werebeasts in responding appropriately to the situation. Humans technically have scent glands as well. However, their scent glands are much muted compared to werebeasts.     Certain areas of the body have mating glands that release pheromones during mating season and sexual engagements. These glands are similar to scent glands but have a stronger focus on sexual attraction. At times, werebeasts can use these pheromones to help others – mostly other werebeasts. For example, if an alpha werebeast is angry and it’s hard to get them to calm down; an omega werebeast can use their pheromones to help them calm down. Mating glands are typically located at the base of the neck and near the genitals of omegas. Mating glands are meant only for one’s significant other or others they would spend the rest of their lives with and have children with. Another difference in anatomy between humans and werebeasts appears as soon as their secondary gender. Although, this excludes merfolk. From birth, werebeasts were born with genitals corresponding to their primary genders – male or female. As early as the start of puberty and/or their presentation, their genitals and/or their other anatomical parts may shift to fit their secondary gender. The bottom half of merfolk differs from the rest of the werebeast community, except for certain breeds of hybrids, the secondary gender aspect of the werebeast anatomy has evolved out of their species over time.
As a male, werewolves are genetically born with a penis. As for female werewolves, they are genetically born with a vagina and their chests will start to grow as soon as they hit puberty. As soon as their secondary gender starts to appear, this is where their anatomy starts to differ even more from their Human counterparts. For more information, about the physical changes in alphas, betas, and omegas, read more about them under their respective titles/names. However, compared to their alpha and omega counterparts, the bodily of a beta werebeast doesn't change much after one's presentation.

Genetics and Reproduction

All werebeast except merfolk, have a primary gender – male and female – and a secondary gender – alpha, beta, and omega. Every alpha and omega werebeast, without a doubt, goes through something known as heats and ruts. ruts are for alphas and heats are for omegas. Some conditions and outside interference can prevent a werebeast from going through a rut or heat. Alphas experience ruts two to three times per year, rarely do they experience ruts naturally more than that. As for omegas, they experience heats more frequently than alphas and their ruts. Typically, omegas have heats three to four times per year. Just like alpha werebeasts, omegas rarely experience heats naturally more than that. Although werebeasts can still get pregnant outside heats/ruts, mating during heats and ruts – especially if an alpha’s rut and an omega’s heat sync up – can increase their chances of getting pregnant by at least 15%. However, beta werebeasts don't experience heats or ruts like their alpha and omega counterparts.

Social Structure

Due to their vulnerability in human form and as pups, it was essential for werebeast to group, also known as packs. With the necessity of a pack, werebeasts were genetically wired to have ranks since the beginning of their existence. Ranks which will help them keep order in their packs. There are three possible ranks a werebeast can be: alpha, Omega, and beta. With three ranks, there is a social hierarchy in which werebeasts - usually only shifting werebeasts like weredragons and werewolves - go by.
  1. Pack Alpha
  2. Elder
  3. Head Omega
  4. Alphas
  5. Betas
  6. Omegas
  7. Pups
  8. Vargulfs

Civilization and Culture

History

A werebeast is a species that can shift into an animal. As time went on and as other species - creatures and plants alike - evolved, so did the werebeast species did as well. Originally, the werebeast could shift into multiple different animals every day. Changing into different creatures than before each time they shift whenever it's needed. At one point in time, as the world was shifting, certain groups within the werebeast population started shifting to one animal or creature every time they shifted and that animal or creature only. As time went on and as the rest of the werebeast population followed, certain groups of the werebeast population could only shift into that one animal or creature ever again. Hence creating sub-species and cultures like werewolves and weredragons. When werebeasts are in their human form - excluding hybrids - or when they are pups, they are more vulnerable; especially shifting werebeasts like werewolves and weredragons.
