Campaign 4, Session 23

The party continues to explore the Spire and meets more followers of Tolgid.


From the barricaded room, the party caught their breath after the great battle with the troglodytes. Jimmy checked the room to the west, finding it to be a simple chamber with poorly made bedmats, and a dark cavern off to the south that the group elected to leave alone for now. The group headed south instead, where they were attacked by a fearsome snake with a charred human skull that did a dance of death to enthrall them all, but only Christie found herself under it's sway. After the group killed the snake, which had risen from an active campfire, they found a magic ring on it's tail, which they were able to identify protected it's wearer from the flames. They briefly checked the door west in this room, but found it lead to the same dark cavern as the other room, and that cavern stunk, for it was a latrine.   Instead the group headed east, where they found a great salamander blacksmith and a room with a portal to the plane of magma. The Salamander sang the praises of the demon Tolgid and attacked them with a warhammer and scimitar, granting it's flames to both of them, and though it was able to hit Guiliman and wound him, Guiliman ultimately hit harder. Exploring the room, they found another Spire Transport Token, and a magical barrel that created cold water. They rolled the barrel out of the room and continued south, where they found another side room, and in that side room was a jail guarded by two serpentfolk, who both proceeded to attack the group. All the while, another serprentfolk was calling out to be freed from one of the jail cells. After a tough fought battle, the guards were dispatched, but poor Jimmy had a very poor reaction to the poison of the serpentfolk's fangs and felt weak.   The serpentfolk in the jail cell seemed to be trustworthy to some in the group, he did praise Tolgrid, and they learned from him that he had been imprisoned there by the new high priest and his mistress. He agreed to heal Jimmy, but when Jimmy got close, he instead drained him further of his strength, and then channeled out to the demon and harmed them all, laughing insanely all the while. Guiliman decided to break down the door to the cell and killed the prisoner.   The group healed up Jimmy as best as they could, but having used many of their spells, they elected to return to the surface, but not before Christie used a spell to send insects to scout the rest of the level. They returned and found their friend Jormez and his wagon still there, working on his mobile temple and some magic items, and they ate and slept and were healed of their wounds. They gave Jormez the barrel of water, as it would be more useful to him in his travels and dealings with the poor. Christie's insects returned, and they explained that there was a chamber full of statues ahead, and from there a secret door led to a bedroom, and the main doors lead to a great chamber with the Spire, but also a portal to unknown regions, and another set of doors that led to a chamber with stairs going down.
