An old foe reappeared to test the party.


After resting and healing up at the Ironspine village, the group spoke with the rescued cleric Jormez, a cleric of The Wanderer. Asking about his plans, he declared that he was going to head back into the Spire to try and get the rest of his things, several holy trinkets of his own design. The group realized that the trinkets he was looking for (an enchanted dagger, tankard, bowl, dice, and set utensils all bearing the mark of his deity) they had found early on in the possession of the goblins. After some debate, he promised to make them a new set if he could have the originals. With that, the group, with Jormez and the rescued wizard Ramud Gravedigger, headed into Thistlefort.   Once arriving in town, Jormez and Ramud heading their own ways, Jormez to buy a new wagon before heading back to outside the Spire and Ramud to return to the wizard's tower. The group elected to do some shopping, and lounging about their inn room for a few days as Christie made several scrolls. Mongoose spent her days preaching the word of her goddess, Jimmy drinking and playing bar games, Guiliman getting into fights. On the day they intended to leave, they found all the horses in the inn's stable to be slaughtered. Examination proved that some being had clawed them to death, but had not eaten them. Unfortunately, they were not able to purchase a new horse from the stables, as the owner did not care for Mongoose and her preaching, but they were able to determine that the stablemaster's horses were fine.   The group returned to the Spire, where they spoke with Jormez, who was building a shrine in the back of his new wagon, which did have a horse. He did advise them that he thought he had heard strange noises coming from the Spire, but given his last experience, was not going in there again. The group sent Jimmy to scout ahead, but as the first floor was still covered in darkness, this helped little. They made their way in, intent on getting to the spire column itself and transporting themselves with their tokens, but were ambushed once again by the undead spirit of Caen. After a long bloody battle with him, they left The Spire, and inquired with Jormez about how to solve the Caen problem for good, and he explained that they probably shouldn't bury people outside the Spire going forward, and that the spirit was likely bonded to his guitar, so if they could bring him the guitar, he would help to set Caen to rest.
