Dagrun

The City of Wonders

Dagrun, the city of wonder, and the greatest city the mortal races have ever created, many travellers make their way to and from in pursuit of fame and fortune. The High Peak Castle, seat of the Sylphereni Empire, towers over the city while the spires of the legendary Solius Acadamy of Magical Arts rise from the ground to create a jagged skyline across the Cerulean Divide.   Being as old as it is it has expanded many times and the remnants of previous expansion can be seen as old defensive walls and district borders get built over and replaced. Its many districts have changed as well over time to the current arrangement of twenty-three.

Demographics

This being the Greatest City in Alephon there are many peoples native and arrived, and though the majority of the populace is human, there are plenty of half-elves, dwarves and other peoples in substantial numbers.

Defences

The city of Dagrun is old and has weathered many attacks in the past. Its outermost wall stands the tallest at 25 to 30 meters in height, there are smaller subsets of walls that divide each city district which allow for patrolling along the borders as a much easier task. Every so often the inner walls will have an outpost or observation tower with one or more ballistae that can be moved along the walls. These inner city walls also have a limited number of gates that can be closed off at a moment's notice.

Industry & Trade

There are few goods of the empire that do not pass through Dagrun and it is the primary importer of Prismic crystals and fiber

Districts

As the City has grown, it has become divided in different districts, with some degree of specialization and they are as follows:   Old Town; where it all started, some old buiildings of the first few centuries remain.   The Peaks: The new palace district, established in the 400's.   The Evergreen Terraces: a district focused on the state religion and specialty agriculture.   The Spout and The Fulcrum: are districts that focus on trade throughout the Cerulean divide and out to the Nostron Sea.   The Crossroads and Traveler block are districts for travelers, the crossroads in particular is home to the Silver Moon Inn and is magically maintained at a comfortable temperature year-round.   The prestigious Solius Academy of the Arcane Arts established its main campus nearby the city, and when the city grew around it the Academy gave in to be incorporated.   The Departing Fields are a funerary district for various faiths and cults.   West of the Cerulean divide, The Sunplatz and the Gardens provide housing and artisan workshops.   The Gilded Bazar and Bankside Promenade further focus on artisan workshops and luxury goods.   Kingshield serves primarily as the headquarters of the city guard.   Finally, the Strays that are more of an informal arrangement of slums and lower income areas.
