Walker's Wardens
the Corps of the Oath
Walker's Wardens is adventuring party active in the Plashin Range of Novyum. Founded in 6847sc as the Corps of the Oath, a mercenary Corps fighting in the Novyum Civil War. The band suffered several defeats in the Eastern Petty Kingdoms due to poor leadership and preparations for battles. Their final task had been to raze a Plasha village that had been discovered in a valley of Oate Mountain. Yet another disastrous campaign that saw most of the fighting force slaughtered by the mountain folk, who were prepared for the attack. Survivors scattered, fleeing into the mountains, pursued by the Plasha. The Corps of the Oath, as so many other military bands of the Great War of the North, were considered lost to the last man.
A half dozen of the men and women of the corps survived. Most stumbling on each other over the next week, as each tried to find their way back to civilization. Hounded by the Plasha these survivors found the town of Oates. A fateful stroke of luck that saved the exhausted and wounded soldiers. After weeks of recovery, the group decided to stay together and work as independents rather than return to join another corps.
Branded deserters in the Heartlands, the new adventuring group, who took on the name The Corps of the Oate, as a play on their bands original name and their new home, stuck to the mountains and Slavyum region for their new life. They party found they worked well together and had success over the thirty plus years of adventuring.
Most members now live retired in Walker Castle above Oates, their adopted hometown. Though it is rare to find any more than one or two of them at home, as they still travel often. Their regional fame is enough that would-be adventurers sometimes travel to Oate in hopes to be trained by the veterans. A handful who have earned a place, have been taken on by the group as a new generation of the corps.
