Oate Mountain
Mount Ortles
Listed on most maps as Oate Mountain, called Mount Oates by the locals, and known as Ortles by the ancients, Oate Mountain is a prominent mountain of the Plashin Range in central Novyum, on the major continent of Ethae. Standing at just over 2300 feet, with rocky baron slopes, its unremarkable height in comparison to the other peaks of the range would easily cause it to be forgotten, if not for its location at the southern edge of the peaks, pushing against the Heartlands. The mountain has long been seen by travels in the east, with many tales and legends arising because of this.
Folklore aside, the mountain could be considered unremarkable in many ways. At least when viewed from the outside. Deep within, and under this mountain mines have been carved out throughout the ages. The rock deep below and throughout the mountain seems to be a node for the Kianon energy, with miners pulling Magic rich Iron from the mountain. Iron that can be used to create Oate Steel. That is not to say every chunk of ore pulled from Oate is rich in Kianon. Most iron of the mountain is common, if not slightly higher in quality. However, rare veins have been found through the centuries, and the ore from these veins have produced some of the greatest weapons in history.
The mines of Oate have declined over the centuries. Ore is still pulled from the mountain by the people of Oates, but gone are the days of kings traveling to the mountain in search of the iron to forge an Oate Steel weapon. Most think the mountain depleted of this magical iron. They would be wrong. Somewhere in there the ore remains. Though its been over a century someday more will be found, by the lucky or the blessed.
