College of Abjuration
Dover College, sometimes called Dover Island, or Dover Castle, or even simply Dover, is a Wizard college that sits on a remote island off the east coast of the Nopum Peninsula on the major continent of Ethae. The college was founded by Nopeli wizards during the height of the United Kingdoms of Novyum. Their original task was to give an alternative to the famous Divinare college in Lakorth that was closer to the cultural center of Novyum at the time. As well as a more affordable alternative. At the time Divinare was rejecting over half its applicants due to limited space and size, thus only high nobles, and the wealthiest citizens were getting accepted. Over time Dover shifted to an abjuration focused school. Today the abjuration curriculum and faculty are the finest is all Ethae.
As its scholastic focus implies, Dover is one of the most secure locations of the Northern Reach, impossible to reach without invitation. Though it is within the jurisdiction of the kingdom of Nopum, and the college respects that allegiance, charters granted from Nopum give the college autonomy for any laws of the land. Dover is self-governing and independent from any national or noble authority and even kings must ask permission to arrive on the island.
Though deeply connected to Nopum, Dove's faculty has always remained neutral in political affairs. Its policy is also to accept any student able to pass its entrance requirements, regardless of ethnicity or cultural divide. Dover remains one of the most neutral colleges in that its faculty does not encourage the students to favor any sort of politics. While many students will graduate into their noble house or patron's service, they are expected to continue the colleges focus on protect rather than aggression in times of conflict.
