Atain
Osto of the Areians
Atain is an Elf city in the western mountains of the Thoamaine Peninsula. The city was once called Osto, and is the last of the great high elf cities of the Areian Nations. It is also the only true elven city in all of Anbar. Its remote location saved it from the bulk of the Dragon attacks during Dragonfall. Heavily damaged and thought destroyed, the city was little more than ruins in the mountains with a pocket of survivors hiding from the world until the rise of Zalpula. Mari Locnehta discovered the city during her adventures in Thoamaine and set about helping the small community rebuild their home.
The city remained largely hidden from the world since its 'discovery' by Mari. Some of the Zalpula elves found their way to the hidden city during the Black Collapse. These elves were welcomed in honor of Mari and her kingdom's service to the lost city. Today, the city is populated by the Osthrim, and the Tililthrim. These Toeman'are and Woyd'are work together to keep the city protected and a memory of elven life from the days of the Areian Nations.
In the modern day Atain (an ancient elvish term meaning Hidden) is largely unknown to the outside world. Rumors of the great elven city in the mountains circulate through the taverns of the Kingdom of Bronze. Those that know of it keep the secret. Some do this in fear of the elves, other for the coin they made in secret trades with those elves. Those that seek it can easily find it, though most are not interested in fanciful tales of marble towers in the mountains.
Atain is a true marvel to see. A city of marble, stone, and steel towers, that seem to grow out of the mountain valley it dwells within. Great ancient trees grow throughout the city. Some of these giant trees grow from, and around, the buildings themselves. Others stand in sacred groves or gardens and protected by the elves. A curning river and small lake flows in the heart of the city, adding to the wonder of the site.
In spite of its great size, the city is home to less than a thousand Atain elves. These elves keep to themselves for the most. They to have connect with some of the Corps of the kingdom, as well as the noble houses. But, stay out of the politics of the land. This is changing however, as the threat of the Scaro Wilds grow stronger. These elves may have not choice but to reconnect with the outside world to fight for their city.
