Nicholas Blackthorne
Nicholas Blackthorne
Nicholas Blackthorne is a successful bronze caster and blacksmith who opens shop in Hol Gheal after his lineage are disinherited from the ruling Wisterwood Family. It is thought that his generation is the first to bear the brunt of a much older curse cast by the ruling Larchfolk.
His father was the 9th generation removed from their last land-owning Wisterwood ancestor, and so when the next generation was sworn in, he was officially disinherited from the land along with his siblings. Their family was separated and sent to work on various farms around Deornet, with Nicholas ending up as a farmhand on the Blackthorne Farm in The Apiary. He became good with weapon and tool repairs, and eventually moved to Hol Gheal where he cast metal for Master of Vegetables.
He met Wolfrau Wisterwood during this work and began courting her, though his dry and surly disposition didn't garner him much sympathy with the Wisterwoods in Hol Gheal. They felt it obvious he was using Wolfrau for networking and contacts, and so they disinherited Wolfrau when she married him.
After Wolfrau's death, Nicholas married again, into the ancient and prestigious Aefernwing family. He was not allowed to take his wife's last name due to the reputation he'd cultivated around Deornet, but his children Lilla Aerfenwing and Runa Aerfenwing would inherit their mother's lineage.
