Personal history
Oleander was born as Aelflaed, the aunt of Leoflaed and the sister of Leoflaed’s mother. In her will, she named her eldest daughter Leoflaed as her successor and Aelflaed to be her councillor until she became of age. Reagents are only eligible to rule without council when they are 20 years old.
Aelflaed was already the Earlen of Ralhaz, and so she and some other Earlen created a small council to distribute the work that needed to be done across the Queendom. They had inherited a land with a bustling mining industry but not the infrastructure to keep up with it. They had inherited forests out of control and terror birds to the East, and unfertile lands to the West. They had inherited skirmishes with Ankou to the South and Hanoeth to the Southwest.
As she grew, Leoflaed developed Silicon Sickness, something which is tentatively treatable but wrought with superstition. She became paranoid Aelflaed and the Earlen were planning to kill her and take the throne. She became increasingly defiant of any decision Aelflaed made as she aged, and made friends with Lambseare. Together they concocted a plan to get rid of Aelflaed once and for all.
After a string of serial murders began causing unrest, Aelflaed suspected Lambseare was responsible. She had Lambseare's puppet factory and theatre shut down, sparking riots and fires, and giving Leoflaed and Lambseare the opportunity to strike. Leoflaed, her newly formed Blaecheort, and Lambseare's Resurrectionists not only deposed Aelflaed but had her brutally murdered. Yarrow and Lambseare buried her body according to the ritual of creating a Kelhruna, and made a bet on whether she'd come back.
