Heno (Heh-no)

The Heno is the name given to a confederation of tribes who are known for their fanatical worship of the Earth goddess Danu’s consort Dheghom Donn, who rules the soil and by extension death. They stand often in direct opposition to the Belenakos , who are worshippers of Belh, the god of currents, light, and healing. However the tribes do often coexist, as the centuries of fighting has caused the commoners to mingle quite frequently.   The Hanoeth are most known across Albanos for ruling the Hanoez Empire until its fall, and for being the most populous peoples in Walhaz.   They are not as widespread as the Belenakos tribes are, and rarely travel further north than Rhudd. They are however in large concentrations in the Great Salt Path  and Western parts of Albanos.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Their tribal name ‘Hanoeth’ is derived from the words ‘Sindai Noxte’, a battlecry and blessing unique to the tribes who founded Nekts, meaning ‘On this night’.

Shared customary codes and values

It is said that Belenakos build monsters and the Hero give birth to them, implying the Belenakos forego giving their creations souls. They by extension consider the pursuits of science and a widespread Information Age to be fundamental to avoiding humanity’s collapse.

Average technological level

They are excellent miners and refiners, having made use frequently of fossil fuels and evaporite in their infrastructure and cultures. Having exploited the mines in Arthros during the height of their empire, they had wireless technology and computing devices all throughout Albanos.

However, it is known that the Belenakos were instrumental in the development of wireless technology and did not receive credit for it.

Common Dress code

The Hanoeth like the Arakhne wear a lot of bone armour, and tend to wear dark colours that hide oil stains.

Funerary and Memorial customs

They believe that bodies are simply a vessel for knowledge and so human mutilation and scientific experimentation is a heavily practiced death rite.

Common Taboos

Cremation is extremely taboo and it was because of these burials that Double Walkers were first able to emerge as a moderatethreat. Before frequent interactions with the Hanoeth, the Belenakos cremated their bodies after a Sin-Eating Ritual. It caused a lot of conflict within the Guilds of Quartz when whole burials became more common in Arthros settlements.
