Master of Soldiers

Master of Soldiers is a special rank given to the commander of the active forces of the Guild of Fortitude. They answer only to the Papess, putting them on the same level as a Saint and Cardinal. However, like the Cardinals they only have reign over their respective guild.

Their freedom to organize and control an army often makes them the power behind the throne of the Papess and they have been instrumental in the rise and decline of the Southern nations of Albanos.

The Master of Soldiers has certain caveats which are also applied to Cardinals in the Clockmakers:
  • They are not allowed to marry or have custody of any children.
  • It is expected they devote their alleigance to Belh and thus sexual or emotional expression is highly discouraged.
  • When a Clockmaker attains the rank of a Master of Soldiers, they are chemically castrated.

Qualifications

Master of Soldiers requires both ordainment as a magician, as well as knighthood training. They must be at least Cleric rank in the Guild of Fortitude, and have also have the Knight rank of the active calvary. They must then either achieve the rank of Master of Footmen or Master of Calvalry, before they are eligible. They have a better chance of being nominated if they are at least a Bishop rank.

Cultural Significance

The Heno utilized this rank in their military structure as well. The Master of Soldiers in the Hanoez army captained the Queen's private guard as well as the queendom's army.
