Imps
Imps are the lowest-ranking devils in the infernal hierarchy of Aigusyl, birthed in the choking brimstone haze of The Nine Hells or spawned in infernal pacts gone awry. Small, winged, and cunning, these fiendish tricksters thrive on deception, subterfuge, and minor torment, often acting as spies, messengers, and saboteurs for greater devils or infernal warlords.
Though physically unimposing—rarely taller than a Halfling, with barbed tails, clawed fingers, and leathery bat-like wings—imps are masters of disguise. Many possess the innate ability to turn invisible at will or shapeshift into beasts such as rats, ravens, or spiders, making them ideal infiltrators. Their twisted grins and gleaming eyes reveal a constant hunger for mischief, cruelty, and manipulation.
Imps often serve mortal warlocks or corrupt clergy as part of infernal pacts, whispering poison into ears, sabotaging relationships, or feeding their masters just enough information to advance their ambitions while dragging them deeper into damnation. Though they act like loyal familiars, their true allegiance is always to Hell, and they are known to abandon or even betray their mortal partners when it best suits their schemes or earns them a promotion within the infernal order.
Culturally, imps are obsessed with status. They measure their worth by the number of contracts brokered, secrets gathered, or mortals corrupted. This has led to a cutthroat existence even among their own kind, where imps regularly undercut one another to win the favor of higher devils like bone devils, erinyes, or archdevils. The most ambitious dream of shedding their impish forms entirely through centuries of service and transformation, hoping one day to ascend into more powerful devilish roles.
Despite their small size and relatively weak combat prowess, imps are not to be underestimated. Their knowledge of infernal law, dark pacts, and soul-binding rituals is vast, and they are adept at turning even the most innocent desire into a damning choice. In the great game of souls, imps are the perfect foot soldiers—subtle, persistent, and ever watching for a moment of weakness.
In the world of Aigusyl, many imps act as spies for Archdevils, agents of The Crimson Veil, or even minor emissaries to mortal courts—disguised as pets, advisors, or enchanted objects. Whether perched on a Warlock's shoulder or hiding in a noble’s bedchamber, imps always have one eye on the next soul to snare.
