Greater Giant-Kin

The greater Giant-Kin samordai - oni and cyclopes - have power rivaling that of a hill giant, and as such are expected to conform to the same level of Meya as true Giants. Despite this, they are never granted the same degree of respect by their larger kin, because they exist outside the rigid social structures of the Orden.   Born largely of cloud giant stock, the oni are not as large as their progenitors, but they possess immense power and a hunger – primarily for the possession and control of Magic – to match it. They are almost invariably loners, since two oni will typically come to strife over their shared or conflicting desires, and rarely feel free to form a true and honest association with other races, instead hiding behind a shapeshifted form. While many become leaders of Lesser Giant-Kin and smaller races merely to serve their own ends, other oni do find the sense of community that eludes them with their own kind.   As natural and consumate shapeshifters, Oni typically have a fluid and self-determined sense of identity and gender. Some oni adopt a religious life, choosing a god whose tenets either uphold or challenge their own sense of superiority, and appreciate their gift for strategy.   The cyclopes, descendants of either or both of fire and hill giant bloodlines, are physically larger than the oni, and are thus accorded a certain extra cache in strictly giant society, although they lack the intelligence and innate magical power. The bulk of the cyclops race remain in the service of the sky cities, with the largest concentration living in the Donar Wastes and maintaining the constant Eurosian presence. Some cyclopes are superb artisans and even artificers, but the majority are labourers or herders, given little liberty to develop other skills as they devote their energies to the service of their 'betters.'   Outside of the tribes who directly serve the giants, cyclopes rarely gather in large numbers, instead living in family groups. They seldom have a pronounced spiritual life, rejecting the Young Gods, but forbidden the direct worship of the Gods of Orden by the larger giants. Like the giants, cyclopes have a strong sense of biologically-determined gender identity, but lacking much unified culture have no real sense of gender roles and norms.   Despite their name, not all cyclopes have a single eye, although it is common enough to be seen as a defining trait.
