Donar Wastes

At the heart of Moraea, the Great Central Basin was a vast region of verdant forest and lush farmland, separated from the Sea of Fate by the rugged coast of Caragal and the upland ridge of the Green cliffs. It was a rich country, peopled primarily by pashak and upland halfling clans. When the region was flooded by the Fall of Eurosia, the Basin retained millions of gallons of saltwater. By the time it drained, the area was a barren, brackish desolation. It became known as the Salt Pit. The Wastes are home to itinerant yainah packs, trolls and larger Giant-Kin. The yainah servants of the Majisters of Donara named the area the Donar Wastes after the home and master they lost in the War of Hubris.   The cultures of the Wastes are typically unsophisticated, in large part because periodic raids by Eurosian troops seeking to establish a lasting colony curtail growth and development, leaving few social groups larger than a single village. Many such groups occupy the remains of abandoned Eurosian fortifications. Some giant-kin in the area pay fealty to the Giants of Eurosia, while others are bandits, with loyalty to none.   Small bands periodically raid neighbouring territories for supplies, especially Big Green or Sandy Hills. Occasionally a warlord - usually on oni or hill giant - will lead a larger force and try to siege territory. Such gains rarely last, as the force collapses into infighting and the threatened region briefly unites to repel them.   The greatest threats come during a Eurosian expedition. Such forces are large and organised, enough to threaten the Kyuzh-magh to the south as well as the northern fiefs. Led by the giants and reinforced by Forgeborn, aerial mansions and fomorian shock troops, these expeditions are rightly feared by all of those bordering the Wastes, and a number of international garrisons are stationed in the wastes to halt, or at least warn of, Eurosian agression. Sadly, fears wane between attacks, and these fortified positions are often understaffed, undersupplied and poorly equipped.
