Caragal

Caragal was a stony, coastal region settled by the Halflings. While the area - the name of which translates as 'grey crags' - was unprepossessing, the fledgling halfling culture made it flourish. It consisted of a rocky coastline, a broad band of stoney hills behind, rising to a line of high cliffs up to the plains behind.   The halflings constructed artificial terraces on the rough hills and brought soil from the plains, transforming the rugged terrain into an agricultural heartland which supported the entire country. In the south of the agricultural country a large settlement grew up on one of the largest and least cultivatable hills. While it always maintained something of a rural character, this settlement - Caraglast, meanining 'crag peak' - became the capital city of Caragal.   The coast played host to scattered fishing villages. In the centre of the Calagan coast, one of these villages became the site for a long, stone pier and a series of breakwaters which allowed the development of a harbour. Clearing out the rocks to make a deep water channel allowed the port city - with typical halfling straightforwardness named Rockport - to host both its own fishing and trading fleets, and visiting sea elf vessels.
Caragal was destroyed during the Fall of Eurosia.
