Sea of Lyaur

The Sea of Lyaur forms the second major body of water in the inland of Ëaqelun. Though smaller than the Ilyonic Sea the size of Lyaur nevertheless influences the climate of the continent interior massively and is home to a wide range of wildlife as well as civilizations. The first olidic explorers of the Empire of Carodin considered Lyaur a part of the Ilyonic Sea but soon discovered that both bodies of water were separated by a small Isthmus. The foundation of the city of Anat at this strategic location and its rapid growth made a connection of the two seas desirable. This was achieved through the building of a massive channel, which connects both seas ever since.
The shores and several islands of the Sea of Lyaur are inhabited by indigenous seafaring tribes, known as the Kaldaer. The name of the sea is traced back to their language, with „aur“ meaning water and the syllable „ly“ often associated with „wild“ or „feral“.
