Empire of Carodin

The Empire of Carodin was the biggest and most powerful realm ever to exist on the continent of Ëaqelun and dominated vast areas during its heights. It was the birthplace of many cultural, technological and social developments and played a crucial part in shaping the currently existing realms. The empire as a whole comprised many different races and cultures, it was however ruled by one race during all its existence, the Olidäe. Members of the Olidäe race were considered favourites of the gods and chosen to rule the Empire of Carodin. Following centuries of tutelage and guidance, they should become the leaders in the rapid technological ascension of the species, known as "The Era of Ascension".   During this rapid technological ascend however, the Olidäe became boastful and insulted the gods, claiming that they should rule all species instead of their creators. The bonds finally broke in 1401 PC, ending the bond between Olidäe and the gods and leading to more than seventy years of war, commonly known as the "The Era of Strife". The end of the conflict also marked the end of the Empire of Carodin, with the Olidäe beeing chased down and ultimately destroyed by the gods and their loyal followers.     The Empire was originally founded on the continent of Caroda and, with divine guidance, rapidly expanded over the seas and onto the continent of Ëaqelun.

Culture

Carodinian culture was defined by both their homelands climate and the hierarchical structure of the society. The Universal Solar Calendar, given to the Olidäe by the gods, defined the life of the citizens via a set of festivals and rites, which in term were laid out after the anual change of seasons in Caroda. Months of abundance were used for hunting and summer festivities while the hotter months saw a strict measurement of the available resources. Every member of society was expected to help the progress of the empire by sticking to the rules established by the rulers of the realm. State sponsored expeditions and research were conducted to fullfill the will of the gods while big festivities were hold to both assure constant favour from the gods while showing them (and the citizens) the new achievements of the realm.

Public Agenda

The empires most important goal was to research the possibilities given to them by the gods as well as expanding into the different areas of the world.

Disbandment

The Empire was destroyed in 1472 PC after decades of war. The power vacuum left behind couldn't be filled by any of the now independent nations who were part of the empire. The centuries old structures of administration, trade and cultural exchange, already severely weakened by the destructive war, finally broke down and revealed the differences between culture groups and races. Wars and instability followed, known under the term "The Cleansing".

Infrastructure

The social structure of the major houses ("Clans") meant that the cities of the Olidäe were planned around big structures with major streets and plazas inbetween. The center of a city was reserved for the seat of government and administration as well as temples and other culturally important places like speaking halls. Water played an important role as well and was gathered in large bassins and pools all over the cities. Intricate canal-systems for supply, waste or beautfication (of course separated) were built and used primarily during the wet season each year.
