Watagata Temple

Purpose / Function

Built as a massive shrine and temple to worship Yoshimura the goddess of honor.

Architecture

Heavy materials like stone, mortar and clay were abandoned as building elements, with simple wooden walls, floors and partitions becoming prevalent. Native species like cedar were popular as an interior finish because of its prominent grain, while pine and larch were common for structural uses. Brick roofing tiles and a type of cypress called hinoki were used for roofs. It was sometime during this period that the hidden roof, a uniquely Japanese solution to roof drainage problems, was adopted. The increasing size of buildings in the capital led to an architecture reliant on columns regularly spaced in accordance with the ken, a traditional measure of both size and proportion. The style was characterised by symmetrical buildings placed as arms that defined an inner garden. This garden then used borrowed scenery to seemingly blend with the wider landscape.

History

Built under Shau Fe's leadership the temple was made for the worship of Yoshimura and those who wish to devote their life to religious service. In previous years every citizen within the county would make multiple journeys to the temple throughout their lives to either thank Yoshimura for what they had or to prey for strength and guidance. As the years went on within the tundra the level of faith slowly diminished throughout the common folk until after The Reckoning where almost the entire country has given up their faith. Few still travel to the temple for any reason and those who do tend to be Clergymen/women,paladins, and clerics. The temple is mainted by a skeleton crew who do their best to keep the temple maintained, but despite their best efforts the temple has fallen a long way from its previous grace.

Tourism

Tourism is high encouraged within the temple by the monks and clergymen who live here. Many hope to use newcomers to gain traction to their lost faith in hopes of rebuilding the temple to it's former glory.
