Battle of the Rosy Stream Military Conflict in Age of Gray | World Anvil

Battle of the Rosy Stream

One of the last battles of the Age of War, many historians consider that this was the event that ended that era.
The mixture of the facts that were the utter defeat of the 30 thousand soldiers from the hands of 9 Witches, more and more Witches being born, and the devastating effect on the world each time they fought or died, sapient races understood that fighting them is futile.

Witches' demand

On 40/2/752, three kings, rulers of the trading city of Golvageth, have been suddenly visited by three Witches.
The Witches proclaimed that if by 4th day of the next month the kings won't hand over their authority over the countries, it will be taken away from them by force.   For kings, this demand seemed ridiculous. However, knowing the power and potential all of the Witches possess, they decided to form an alliance and mobilize their armies.   Seeing that, Witches proposed to the kings to pick the location where the battle would take place, as they didn't want to destroy the city that would soon belong to them.   The day of the battle came.

Three days of suffering

It started badly, and with every minute everything went worse and worse.
In the first minutes of the battle over a hundred soldiers were dead and one of the Witches managed to hypnotize another 200 to start killing their allies, and the numbers grew and grew.
The artillery fire of the Rainbow Emitters placed at the safe distance managed to slow down the Witches' charge, but after the first night, one of them managed to sneak to their location and sabotage over half of them.   For the entire time, Witches tried to find the three kings, hiding somewhere amongst their armies.
The massacre lasted for three days, it almost seemed like the Witches were toying with everyone for the entire time.
And on the fourth day, one of them died.

Death of a Witch

One of the kings spent a fortune to equip a few of his best marksmen with bows with arrows created to weaken Witches.
Three days they had to wait for the perfect opportunity to strike down one of them.
The arrow pierced the shield around her, something even the artillery fire couldn't do. Then it pierced her body. All of the color from her face started to drain.
The soldiers didn't even wait for their orders, they attacked her, killing her shortly after.   It was their greatest mistake.

Capitulation

Death of a Witch led to two disastrous events.
First, all of the Colors contained within her body started to spill, creating an explosion that killed the bigger part of still standing armies with kings who were too close. Archers met the same fate, which destroyed the only weapons that could be used against the other Witches.
Second, seeing the death of their friend, the rest of the Witches stopped playing around.
The amounts of Colors they started to use, warped the area left and right.   The last living king capitulated.

Witch-killing weapons

Before the battle has started, four kings tried to find any possible way to defeat the Witches. Those 25 days between the first hearing from the Witches and the day of the conflict, they gathered information, rumors, and hearsay.
And, one of them succeeded.
Apparently, a weapon made out of ███████ wood and soaked in poisonous juices of █████ ███████ is able to break off one's connection with the Colors within their body for few seconds. In case of a Witch, that would leave her completely defenseless for a few seconds.
