Far Abbey

As the Thinveil transitions into an alpine region of forests and low mountains, there stands an ancient monastery known as Far Abbey. Above a large permanently frozen lake, a sect of monks has chosen to dwell here, dedicated to finding peace and stillness in the most desolate landscape on earth.

Purpose / Function

The Monks of the Frozen Blood believe that true contemplation requires accessing one’s real inner self and many practitioners of the martial arts pursue these truths in the isolation offered by nature, traveling high up slopes into the crags and peaks where no others live. These mountain hermits have developed techniques that not only attune their bodies to the frigid chill but utilize it, turning the cold into a weapon all their own.

Alterations

Originally a proud building built against the mountain cliff-sides, the building has begun to sink into the encroaching ice of the Thinveil. The building lists as it has begun to submerge, and certain sections of the abbey have fallen into disrepair.

Architecture

The monastery stands just past a forest of tall spires of ice that resemble trees and piles of snow that look like bushes. Just past the frozen garden, stands a half-submerged, dark-blue stone building poking up through the ice. A gray stone door is carved to look like an upside-down axe. Scribed above the door in Celestial is a single word: “WORLDEND.”   Far Abbey is tilted in the ice, with its east side lower than its west side. Every area within the complex features a gentle slope downward to the east.   The inside of the monastery is much more comfortable than the outside. White plaster covers the stone walls, giving the place the feel of an old church rather than a great stone fortress half submerged in ice. The abbey is dimly lit by wall sconces with continual flame spells, as there are no windows to the outside.
