Soarsing Oasis

Where the land is hot but desires burn hotter.

An oasis that was a regular stop in the Sossa Desert before the sundering of Necessa. After the shattering of the world the Sossa Desert found itself drawn toward The Elemental Plane of Fire. Where there was once cool refreshing respite of the desert heat now became geothermally active hot springs. An added benefit was soon discovered that those soaking in the heated waters found relief for chronic ailments. Word then spread far and wide about the hot springs and the town that surrounded the oasis found a surge of travelers making pilgrimages to the healing waters. This reinvigorated the town and travel surged. Soon the oasis found travelers of a different sort arriving by way of portals from The Elemental Plane of Fire. Fire Salamanders descended from the portals and while they found found the temperature balmy they also coveted curative waters though they were environmentally at a disadvantage. Crafty they figured out a deal that would allow them to use the waters and yet offer something of value to the residents. Something that was useless to them but was in high demand in the new lands. Aetherite saturated with fire aspect highly desired for its long lasting heat properties. While typically viewed by others as selfish and cruel the Fire Salamanders settled the oasis in relative peace with their new neighbors and trade keeps both side rich. The success of this settlement drew the attention of the Efreet Sultanate from the City of Brass and they sent a small delegation of Efreet to establish a presence in the settlement. With them they brought their harem and leaned into to the pleasure resort's growing reputation. They quickly became renowned for finding the right sort of pleasure that the finder desires both mortal and immortal.

Government

A small, town council has formed from representatives of each of the factions to discuss government matters. The representatives are selected amongst their own factions. For example the fire salamanders select the eldest noble amongst them. The Efreet have a representative selected by the sultan directly. And amongst the rest either powerful family heads or an elected officer holds the position.

Defences

The defense of the town is that of the inhabitants themselves and they draft themselves into service as emergencies arise. This is the case for all manners of emergency from threat to weather effects.

Industry & Trade

There are three major industries established in Soarsing, pleasure, fire aetherite, and hot springs tourism. Tourism is the major initial draw to the settlement whether for the pleasure bazaar offered by the Efreet or to partake in the hot spring's restorative properties. Those not taking in decadance are there either for passage to The Elemental Plane of Fire or to export fire aetherite to settlements outside of Soarsing.

Infrastructure

Hot running water is probably one of the most notable features. A gift from the fire salamanders they created the copper pipe network that directs hot water to places that need it and cool water back into the springs. Fire aetherite is also used to keep the forgeworks of the settlement going forging any brick or metal work needed. The resort also has a refined sewer system using the copper pipe network and clever use of portals to burn the waste material. A very small aether filer port is present to accommodate travelers and traders. Many caravans still cross the desert by foot and animal and pens are available for them to board the pack animals.

Districts

The outskirts of town house the animal pens as well as the aether flier docks. Inside of the town the bazaar can be found to make deals on all of the exports of the town. Next to that is the buildings that support the tourism to the town such as a tavern and resort where visitors can partake in the hot springs. The embassy of the efreet is also where their services are offered. Lastly the portals to The Elemental Plane of Fire are housed in the fire salamander's section of the town. They reside on the other side of the portals but built shelter around them to integrate them into their function.

Assets

The valuables of the settlement are the hot springs themselves, the portals to The Elemental Plane of Fire, and the fire aetherite. Those are the three most valuable items of the resort and the secondary ones are the tourism services as well as the smithies that are powered by fire aetherite. The salamanders and Dwarves use them with great skill.

Guilds and Factions

There are three main factions that have a loose alliance out of mutual interest. You have the Efreet of the Sultanate, the fiefdom of fire salamanders, and lastly the mortals of Necessa make up the rest in a group that represent the resort and its functions.

Points of interest

The points of interest in the settlement are the stables and aether flier fields for travelers reaching the settlement. The resort and the hot springs themselves which draw in many travelers. The bazaar where trade for the fire aetherite as well as other spices, food, and smithed goods of the region. The consulate run by the Efreet is popular for those that see pleasures of various sorts. Lastly are the portals to The Elemental Plane of Fire themselves which facilitate travel between the two planes.

Tourism

All walks of life find themselves drawn to the hot springs from the elderly looking to soothe chronic pain, the sick that have strange ailments that only the waters of the spring seems to alleviate. Travelers to and from The Elemental Plane of Fire use this settlement as once of the safer and more reliable portals between the two planes. Lastly traders seeking the goods of the settlement are the types of travelers that visit the location

Architecture

With foliage scarce adobe fire bricks are made to build pueblo structures. The buildings are quite sturdy once the bricks are fired either in The Elemental Plane of Fire, or using fire aetherite. Many buildings are adorned with copper to facilitate the pipes but also form other accents for the buildings.

Geography

The region iself is in an arid loction that could be considered a valley with the surrounding cliffs that help shelter the settlement from wind and sand storms. The water itself is ample enough for the settlement to survive and fruiting plants have been grown in the area and palm trees ring the settlement as well. The location seems sheltered and remote compared to the rest of the desert that is traveled to get to the town.

Climate

The temperature of the oasis is hot since the springs themselves are heated there is not as a refreshing place to cool off. This has been offset by the use of heat pipes to draw the heat for heating for the hotter climate residents. This can create cooling for the others so is mutually beneficial. If you asked the hotter climate residents they would say the region is too cold for them and they tend to reside on the other sides of the portals for comfort and cross the divide to conduct business.

Natural Resources

The natural resources of the area is the spring waters themselves. There is not enough to export it out of the region and the healing effects are greatly diminished when the water is taken elsewhere. The fruiting plants of the area are popular for food as well exported for those seeking rare delicacies. Ore in the surrounding cliffs have a presence of copper which the town used for the majority of its metalwork. The portals themselves to The Elemental Plane of Fire are not unique to the area but the size and frequency of them are a boon to the settlement. Lastly the people themselves are a resource for the resort and pleasure seekers.
