Dwarves
Depending on whom you ask they will say that the dwarves of the mountains were always there and just choose to dig up to the surface when they exhausted all the treasures of the deep. Regardless of this myth, dwarves in general were a seclusive bunch that have opened their communities to others as time has gone on. Whether it was subjugation or cooperation, the dwarves became servants of the giant kingdom before the dragon-giant war. This was when they clashed with the elves that were vassals of the dragons, first clashed. As the war escalated the dwarves finally turned on their masters and sought to topple their regime.
After giant fall as it became to be known their battles didn’t stop as the dwarves and the orcs began to fight amongst one another for the remains of the kingdom that was left behind. This was where the dwarves gained their grudge with the orcs. After the sundering of Necessa many dwarf communities were upended. They were still largely self-sufficient and were able to adapt to their new surroundings. Dwarves were also among the first to build aether fliers to reconnect with communities split by the vast voids in the aether. With their newfound travel abilities, the dwarves took up trade with many separated communities and found deep profits that rivaled even the deepest mines.
Dwarves have four lineages in Necessa. Crag dwarves burrow into the hills and mountain sides. Deep dwarves live entirely underground and are rarely seen above ground. Mountain dwarves are commonly found inside their mountains and mine the depths for resources. Lastly, the Obsidian Dwarves are a nomadic group uncommon amongst their brethren.
Dwarf Culture
All dwarves love craftsmanship and architecture. What they make is passed on to subsequent generations to honor the ancestors that are now gone.
Crag dwarves value what they find on the surface and in their extensive digs there. They build their communities near these large digs and even integrate them into the layers as they dig down. The crag dwarves are the most social of all the sublineages with their neighbors.
Deep dwarves on the other hand are completely isolated from the surface and only interact with their mountain dwelling brethren or other subterranean civilizations. This tends to make them weary of outsiders. Their architecture tends to be stark, and minimalist compared to other dwarven designs. They also still hold onto many traditions that were founded during the giant occupation.
Mountain dwarves covet the riches of the mountains and dig greedily for them. They then use these resources to embellish their crafts and structures.
Crag Dwarf
The Crag dwarves would in days before the split of the world, strip mine the landscape for riches and would then settle in the sides of the dugouts making vast steppes. They are the most social of the species and are ambassadors for their people amongst non-dwarves. They use gravity and other natural sources of power such as waterfalls to turn mechanical wheels to power various mechanisms. Crag Dwarves are responsible for their aether fliers and help build the massive trading fleet they have now.
Deep Dwarf
Rarest of all the dwarves, the deep dwarves are hardly evert seen above ground. They are also estranged from their brethren because of their still lingering ties to giant society even down to their beardless fashions. Living as deeply as they do underground, they have an acute sense of danger ranging from ambushes to cave ins it is not often you can get the jump on them.
Mountain Dwarf
Vast numbers of mountain dwarves live in their mountains and uncommonly deal with outsiders unless they are guests. They are the most hearty of all the dwarves and are adapted to living in their cold and damp environments. They covet all that glitters whether it is gem or mineral. You can find them adorning their constructions with all sorts of visual finery.
Obsidian Dwarf
Obsidian dwarves are uncommon in most areas aside from arid and hot regions. They are mostly migrant people that caravan from location to location and are often encountered as merchants or practitioners of the arcane. They have also made an alliance with the mountain orcs of Azcragg. In exchange for housing in the once dwarven homeland in exchange for their expertise with dwarven technology and arcane practices. This has put them at odds with other dwarves.

Deep dwarves look strange in comparison, with pale skin or light grey and large, dark eyes adapted to navigate the utter blackness of subterranean living. Mountain dwarves are the most prolific, and there are few mountain ranges in the world where you cannot find at least one outpost.
