Aesmaril
Land of ice and sand, the lost libraries of millenia beneath its shifting surface.
A continent split between the scorching desert and freezing tundra, a thin line of truly habitable lands splitting them before opening up. The division is marked by a mountain range now torn in half. Living Spells roam through the inner desert, with rare appearances in the tundra at times of intense Weave ruptures.
Geography
Aesmaril is a large region, split in half by an immense mountain range known as Spine, The; the north-eastern regions are predominately frozen over most of the year, the lower half of the tundra thawing in the height of summer only. The south-west, however, is predominately desert and ashlands. The only region that remains green and viable for farming throughout the year is located between the two tails of The Spine, following the curve of the mountains towards a good-sized region that's too warm to freeze and was shielded by the mountains.
Fauna & Flora
What remains of plant or animal life in the south-west is twisted by mutation and alteration. They are somewhat farmed by the coastal settlements, though the effects of such a diet can be seen in changes to the population.
In the north-east, arctic and tundra species survive. The plants are tough and fibrous, but hardy once seeded, while animals are hunted for meat, fur and fat to survive the winter. In Faewoods, The there are occasional hunts for Fey beasts, which have been left behind after the Gates collapsed and readily settled in as apex predators. A particular beast of recent note has been a stalking hunter, able to vanish at will and ravage flesh without rending armour.
Natural Resources
The primary resources relied upon now are those gathered from the north. Tough pine and cold stone are used for repairing and supporting the remaining settlements, while deposits of iron are sought where possible within The Spine or Range, The: but these mines are slow going, as much of Aesmaril's capability for working metals was lost over the centuries due to lack of resources to work with.
History
Once, this kingdom was renowned for its studies into the stars, planes and heavens. The capital, Aesruk , was home to a nexus of planar gateways to many other settlements across the Planes. The scholars and knowledge that accumulated within this kingdom were once renowned across the world, and even other planes of existence. The Cataclysm destroyed many archives in the south-west, while those to the north-east were destroyed by battle or anarchy in the following decades.
Tourism
At times, those from other continents try to make the journey here; some look to trade, while others desire the lost knowledge that can be sought out in buried ruins or fire gutted archives.
