Ashwoods
Dust held in shape by time and magic, the Ashwoods is one of the key locations which bind the loose sands of the Aesmarian Desert together. The trees crumble to the touch, sloughing off in a cascade of sand that joins the desert below. Within a day, though, the damage is repaired as if never disturbed. Leafless branches provide little shade at the most, and nothing remains that passes on; flesh and bone withering into nothing.
Geography
Harsh and unforgiving, the Ashwoods are a prime example of what to expect in a desert. The sands within the forest are somewhat stable, though travelling away leads to softer, unsupported sand which shifts and moves freely. Nothing exists around it, but for a distant coast and distant mountains.
Natural Resources
Rumours exist that the ash of the crumbled trees houses powerful properties. But none have the aptitude or power, if it's even true, to determine what this property might be.
History
The forest was once sparse scrubland, situated around a broad but shallow oasis. The trees grew out of the water itself, creating a place of cold, refreshing water. However, the spring was destroyed and the trees reduced to their ashen form, which remains to this day.
