Pilgrim's Point

An isolated, barren temple located in the most untouched and hostile reaches of Aesmaril. At the peak of the coastal cliffs, only accessible through the long and dangerous Pilgrim's Path, it was once the final destination of many undergoing a path of redemption or the final rites to join the faithful. Those who still try to make the journey are considered fools: the Pilgrim's Path has become too dangerous for many to even consider travelling though. Those who do succeed find an empty, frozen temple that contains ice-rimmed rooms, halls and items of obscure age.

Purpose / Function

Constructed as a grand Temple, Pilgrim's Point served a purpose for many of the races creeds. Those who needed to perform an act of redemption, or who sought to join the ranks of the clergy, would begin the trial with only their robes and a modest amount of rations. Those who achieved their journey and arrived would have completed their task and be welcomed back into their faith.   Each Pantheon had a section of the Temple for their own use, where they could store holy items and relics. The Temple was intended to allow for the most valuable of relics and history of the various faiths to be stored in safety for posterity should anything happen to other places of worship. The Temple was protected by a number of people from each faith involved until the Cataclysm came.

Alterations

With the Cataclysm, many of the lower levels collapsed away as a grand pit split open beneath Pilgrim's Point. The lower levels are twisted and slanted, with corridors and stairways ending abruptly as they empty out into the chasm below. Unlit and rugged, they remain scaleable once illumination is provided. However, none have managed to reach the bottom, with some failing to return to the surface, only ragged-edged and severed climbing ropes being dragged back up.

Architecture

Built from durable stone, Pilgrim's Point takes the form of a number of temples, each of which shares a common courtyard within a walled complex. The majority of the underground levels are converted into areas of growing plants for food and medicine, though these levels have become damaged, with several areas flooded with a half-frozen slush.

History

After a period of conflict between many of the differing faiths, it was determined that as a preventative measure against the loss or misuse of ancient and powerful relics a mutual location should be established. The Pilgrim's Point was decided to be the best location for such a reliquary, and the many faiths worked together to create the location.   Once finished, each temple within the complex was interred with the oldest and most dangerous of relics of the faiths for security. The faiths provided guards for each temple to ensure that no faith could attempt to seize one of the other temples, in addition to providing an isolated location for advanced training methods of those seeking to join Orders.
