Frewen

BRIEF HISTORY OF FREWEN Continent: Frewen (Formerly Arlen, and before that Norra) Settled By: The Norrans Peoples: Frewish Currently Ruled By: King Frewen VII Government Type: Absolute Monarchy (although not an oppressive monarchy) Divisions: 4 Provinces (Durah’Vaal, Farah’Vaal, North Arlen, Ardah’Vaal) (In Norrish, the word ‘vaal’ translates to ‘land’, ‘durah’ is ‘west’, ‘farah’ is ‘south’, and ‘ardah’ is ‘east’) Capitol: Frewen City Language Spoken: Norrish (my world’s version of English) Climate: Temperate, Boreal forest   History: Frewen was originally settled by a people called the Nor, coming from the far north. They eventually began calling themselves the Norran peoples. They first built the city of Norwen and slowly pioneered most of the central continent. They called the new country Nor’Vaal, or Land of the Nor. After some time, a king in the northwest named Arlen started to conquer the lands to the south and to the western coast. The Norrans hailed him as a mighty warrior and benevolent king. He soon became known throughout the entire continent and because of his excellent diplomacy and because of the benefits of his kingdom, the rest of the south and east of Nor’Vaal joined his kingdom willingly. King Arlen then appointed leaders over parts of his dominion and divided the continent into 4 provinces. The north, west, south, and east. The Norrans prospered in all they did. By the time King Arlen VI was in power, the people were widely known as the Arlenians, the Norrans were largely only mentioned as a historical name. During the reign of King Arlen IX, they southern coast was invaded by a king from the Southern continent of Telerica named Frewen. They crossed over with many large armies and thus began the great Frewish Wars lasting over 60 years. They were dark years as the Frewish gained many strongholds, conquering the south and the west, and eventually the east as well. The war ended with a peace agreement, allowing the Arlenians to reign only north of the North Arlen River and northwards from Evansfall. During the signing of the peace treaty, signifying the surrender of the Arlenians, the Frewen government officially declared that the kingdom would be renamed to Frewen. From then the capital was renamed Frewen City. The Frewish have since remained in power. According to the peace treaty, the Frewish do in fact own the land where the last remaining Arlenians dwell and total peace has been achieved throughout the kingdom. To preserve culture, the southern, eastern, and western provinces have kept their original names and boundaries, however, the Northern Province has been renamed Central Arlen. The Frewish kings have long supported education and Frewen has become known throughout the world as one of the best-educated countries to date. Currently, King Frewen VII reigns and lives in Frewen City with his daughter Cara.

Geography

Frewen's climate is widely varied. Mixed and boreal forest prevail throughout much of the central regions with some massifs sprinkled around. There are many rivers that flow through the country feeding in from the northeast and central east coasts. In the northeast there lies the great Spectacle Lake which then flows south towards the Queen's Gulf. Much if the north is covered by woodland, and further north the land is covered in snow and hill country. To the south, the climate becomes warmer and is home to expansive grasslands and prairies. Here is where Frewen's most farmable land lies. Also in this region, the ground is rich with minerals like coal, iron, and limestone. Alongside farmlands, this central region is home to many mines as well.   Frewen is a beautiful country. If compared to anywhere in the real world it would compare to somewhere like Canada. Lots of prairie, forest, lakes, mountains and hill country. The summers are mild to hot and the winters are cold with lots of snow. To the north in upper North Arlen, the land is mostly forested with mixed forest hill country. To the east in Ardah’ Vaal, the land is much closer to sea level with hill country, a large massif surrounded by forest. In the center of the province and toward the south in Farah’ Vaal, there are expansive prairies and steppes, as well as another large massif. There are some wetlands as you get nearer to the coast as well as the Leywood woodlands, a popular hunting grounds populated by mostly deciduous trees. To the west in Durah’ Vaal, the majority of the province is covered in mixed forests, rivers, and lakes. A most beautiful province.

Fauna & Flora

Flora & fauna is considered to be diverse across Frewen. Frewen has multiple ecosystems ranging from lush forests, prairie lands, tundra, hill country, and lake country. Some flora of significance is the fogberry. Fogberries are native only in the northwest lake land region of Durah' Vaal. They are hard to find as they only produce during the autumn seasons for as little as 2 weeks. When they are at full growth, they release a sweet-smelling foglike vapor into the air. In some areas where they grow, this fog can densely cover the vicinity making it hard to locate the bushes. However, they are delicious when eaten fresh. These are considered a rare and expensive treat around the world.   Among Frewen's unique fauna include creatures such as the nettleback, koranines, the northern alpalon, the flying turing, and the river quill.
