Fenholdt Fiefdoms
Disparate and isolated, the Fiefdoms of Fenholdt nevertheless find that they have more in common with each other than they do outsiders, banding together to keep what is theirs.
Structure
Each individual Fiefdom in Fenholdt has its own structure, but usually, a town is ruled by either a noble family or a village elder, called a Fenfief. Once a year, on a Fen Moot, the Fenfiefs elect a representative to act as the ruler in national matters such as defense and diplomacy.
History
Even during the Taldor Empire, the Fenfolk was an individual people. The damp and sluggishness of their swampy homes made the Taldor authorities reluctant to live and rule the lands and, as such, the Fenfiefs mostly retained their autonomy.
The impassibility of the land has made sure that even while wars raged around them, the Fiefdoms have been left alone.

Military
Fenholdt lacks a formal military, but each of the Fiefdoms trains their own protectors whom the representative can call on in times of war.
Whenever someone is foolish enough to attack Fenholdt, they find themselves stuck in muck, being pelted with spears and arrows from the brush, feels knives suddenly stab into their backs, the perpetrators disappeared back into the murky water before they turn and, eventually, their armies turned back.

Religion
While the Taldor Empire spread the worship of The Pantheon to most of its provinces, Fenholdt's isolation kept it dedicated to the Old Ways of Druidry and the worship of Gaia.
Agriculture & Industry
The Fenfolk pull out bog iron and processes it into iron and steel, selling it to neighboring nations, that they may better wage war with it.

Trade within Fenholdt is managed by a small fleet of flat-bottomed river boats, steered up and down the wetlands and to their neighbors.
