The Overseer Character in Aeon | World Anvil

The Overseer

Hmmm, The Overseer...

Known by no other name that I am willing to repeat in polite company.

They are generally considered 'dead' as a result of the Great Flare  and the sacrifice of Leigha some 4,000 years ago. What that means for a God is best left to theologians, however the cataclysmic changes forced on Aeon and the concurrent disappearance of all Gods meant the nature of faith underwent a drastic change.

It is impossible for any mortal to truly grasp the meaning of existence for a divine being. A commonly held view amongst scholars is that the Overseer was responsible for the original "Design"; the fabric of existence, all that exists within our reality. The lesser Gods were then responsible for implementing the Design in every detail.

I sense you are having some difficulty?

Think of it this way; there was a design, or pattern, or recipe used to create everything from the shape of the rocks beneath your feet to the shape of every living thing around you. The Overseer wrote down the recipe and the other Gods gathered all the ingredients and baked the pudding.

It is commonly held in circles that care about such things that the Overseer set loose The Harvester to scour Aeon clean in retaliation for the polluting intervention of the lesser Gods, whom the Overseer discovered had been interfering directly in the way the plan was being used; The Overseer didn't like the taste of the pudding as the Gods had altered the ingredients.

To your everyday farmer or labourer, shopkeep, guard or courtesan the concept of the Overseer is far from being a source of conversation or concern; that pudding is not on the menu.
