Mystek
“…The overwhelming prowess of machines enhanced beyond their capabilities with the use of magic. Pretty genius if you ask me…”
Introduction
Mystek is bar-none the newest and most experimental source of magical power to the land of Aekko, as exploration to The Hollow to retrieve the medium's power source has only recently become possible due to scientific advancements. The medium emcompasses all technology which uses Fantasma Crystals as a power source, a peculiar crystalline rock which seems to grow like a living organism and outputs strong elemental magical residuals.
Utility
Mystek devices can even feed into one another if similar elemental outputs are placed in tandem with one another, though this resonance does create more instability to the power system. Due to the staggering raw power and versatility of Mystek, it’s no wonder it sees use in nearly every setting in which a magical medium is needed. The future of the technology is in the hands of the people of Aekko; will they innovate ways to ration/prolong its use for future generations, or will war over the crystals along with their destructive mining practices literally sink society itself downwards?
Manufacturing
Thanks to the wide array of different energy and magical outputs of fantasma crystals, as well as Mystek's modernity, Mystek remains as one of the least understood magical mediums. Mystek has proven itself to work very well in combination with other magic mediums: Inscribing symbols of the runic arts on the crystals or in their vessel can increase the power output of the crystals, while surrounding the crystal with a geomancy sigils can either stabilize the crystal to allow it to operate with consistent output for long periods of time, or it can convert the energy into a different more-desired output.
Social Impact
Since the introduction of Mystek technologies to the general public, they have been mostly used to improve already existing technologies such as firearms beginning to use Mystek cartridges, the integration of Mystek into spell scroll embuement as well as more efficient spellcasting, and even the new fad of Arcsthetics began using the technology to create powerful desired magical effects consistently. Thanks to these technological integrations of Mystek, Fantasma Crystals are now available in public marketplaces for around 1 Gold per pound, and Fantasma Crystal mining has only become more and more common to the point of nearly drying out the supplies under Vomethnda.
Parent Technologies
Access & Availability
Means of constructing mystek devices has become common place within the century. It is now uncommon to for even a household not to have a single mystek device.
Complexity
The creation of mystek requires in-depth knowledge of both runic arts and geomancy to properly function as well as a crafted device to house an etched fantasma crystal.
Discovery
In the year 1512, the eclectic inventor Skald Kappi sought to improve upon runic arts by infusing technology with magic. Instead, he derived a new form of magic using fantasma crystals to enchant machines.
