Geomancy

An exponentially more complex casting-method than Runic Arts, Geomancy solidified itself as a spellcasting medium in Ezlekhian territories during an era of peace nearly 500 years ago. Geomancy uses a perfect circle of modified runes precisely enscribed along its circumference to resonate these symbols in an entirely new way, drawing out the latent powers inside both spell ingredients and runic symbols themselves, alchemically combining and magnifying these effects to achieve the desired spells.   Example Sigil Circle:

Discovery

Geomancy was founded based off of experimentation and modification of Runic Arts spellcasting, and is an expansion of the art that even takes advantage of the third dimension. Over the thousands of years it took to establish the Runic Alphabet, early spellcasters would greatly modify the structure of runic symbols outside of their modern Alphabetical forms, stretching, scaling, and even overlaying their forms over one another to create elaborate symbols which spellcasters eventually coined as Sigils. These sigils were much less adept at manifesting into physical phenomena than their Runic bases, even after using Channeling runes, different spellcasting focuses, and even different mediums.  These puzzled experimenting spellcasters tried every new method they could think of to materialize results from these sigils for millenia, finally reaching a breakthrough around year 1,000.   Ezlekhian researchers began placing multiple sigils in a circular formation called a Sigil Circle, which seemed to manifest weak phenomena in the circle's center.  By connecting these sigils with straight lines connecting to the point in the center of the circle, these sigils were in resonance with one another, casting the first Geomancy spell (albeit an extremely unstable one).  As time has gone on, and more experimentation with Geomancy has yielded safer and more-consistent results, more sigils have been discovered, allowing Geomancy to cast complicated spells which even the Runic Arts cannot easily handle without side effects.

Access/Availability

Much like its ancient ancestor, the Runic Arts, Geomancy has been available across Aekko since its inception, and has even developed since its discovery to be the more stable spellcasting method.  Geomancy's alphabet of over 300 sigils has been passed down generations of budding spellcasters all across Aekko to become the commonplace technology seen across the world today.   Geomancy is commonly used in modern utility spells due to the increased stability of the spellcasting method compared to the Runic Arts, though all spells can be casted through both methods.

Complexity

Geomancy, being a much more modern technology than its ancient counterpart, means that new sigil combinations and interactions are discovered every year.  Though the sigils all resonate into one spell effect upon casting, merely changing the position of the symbols around the Sigil Circle can create entirely new and unpredictable spell effects.    For example, the spells Gust of Wind and Featherfall use the exact same symbols, except that two of the symbols, one denoting the spell's target and one denoting it having a burst range are swapped.  This makes it so that Gust of Wind focuses on bursting at targets wildly, while Featherfall focuses on targeted gusts which lighten the falls of its targets.   And this is just the start; Some sigils can even be fundamentally changed depending on the order of the overlapping strokes of their characters, the placements of material components has an immense impact on the casting of the spells thanks to the Sigil Circle's resonance, and there are even theories about the boosting of a spell's manifestation if the center of the Sigil Circle is inscribed with sigils or runes.   Despite Geomancy's age, there are plenty of ways that the spellcasting method can still be expanded on, and this will continue to ring true for the foreseeable future.
