Conflux Arcana

The Conflux Arcana is a great university of magic and center of learning and wisdom in the city of Riven. The university exists within the sovereignty of the Wardens of the Wellspring and has become an indispensable part of the city's identity. It primarily serves as a medium for wizards, although arcane spellcasters of all types are welcome.

Purpose / Function

Within the halls of the Conflux Arcana, the wardens teach and educate aspiring spellcasters in all manners and schools of magic. Individual colleges within the university focus on particular specialties. Arcane lore and magical secrets are conveyed through demonstration as well as through books. This has resulted in the university having an ample library as well as room for practice grounds scattered around its campus.
Initially, the Conflux Arcana was limited to elves and some humans designated by the wardens as overtly attuned to magic. However, as the empire encroached upon the border of Tusnya, magic fell out of favor. Now the university welcomes all manners of students regardless of race or background, although magical abilities are still a requirement.

Alterations

The architecture of the buildings have reflected the change of attitude towards other races, although minimally. Much of the style remains elven, specifically from Tol Annûn, but over time Tusnyan architecture has become prominent in additional buildings needed for training centers, extensions to the library, and storage.

Architecture

Built in a similar architectural style to the elves of Tol Annûn, the building consists of limestone from the mines surrounding Beystone as well as imported marble. Upon each tower are floating multi-colored crystals which reflect light, similar to how magic emanates from the wellsprings. Each cylindrical tower has an arcane rune representing a school of magic, although most of the design is covered with ever-growing ivy and thorns.
There are three entrances to the school, each in a different tower. Subsequent spires were constructed adjacent to an existing tower, without any connection to the ground. The school has been able to grow upwards, supported by bridges and jettied overhangs.

History

Founded in 833 AR by the elves of the Valorion Dominion and the Wardens of the Wellspring as a way to convey magic to a primarily non-elven citizens of Tusnya. Built over nearly twenty years, it stands as a sign of gratitude towards the Tusnyans who not only welcomed them on their shores, but also helped outfit the dominion with ships for their navy.
