Knara

(a.k.a. Hero of Gívis)

Góalanic:
Knara (gólverska)
Gártan:
Knara (gártan)

Among the Góalanics, human natives of Góalanis in eastern Adynía, Knara of Gívis is one of the most celebrated generals who fought against the orcish invasions during the first two centuries after the fall of Paþaría (a.Paþ), especially among those living in and near the city of Tarsú.
After Tarsú (then known as Tarúsía) fell to the orcs, the king of Gívis sent Knara with a small army against a group of warriors on their way to Þis. Knara and her men were ambushed on the way and were quickly overrun, until only she remained, but managed to defeat the entire group and return to Þis despite some serious wounds. This halted any orcish invasions into southern Góalanis for quite some time, as many of their chiefs were convinced Knara was no mere mortal.
Although Knara continued fighting for Gívis, she did so from more distance, as the ambush had left her scarred both physically (her left leg never fully healed) and mentally, but was treated as a hero nonetheless. She died from meningitis not long before Þis was razed by the orcs and abandoned, with many góalanics settling in Tarsú where they venerate Knara each year with a feast, though not outright mentioning her to avoid angering the ruling tribe there.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Knara was known for her skills with swords and bows, was quite adequate at using magic and had an innate ability to resist arcane attacks, a trait Knara inherited from her grandmother. Knara's poetry was generally well received, though none of her works have survived, but her singing less so, so she mostly stuck with playing the lyre.

Social

Family Ties

Her father Viklatos was the son Tódos, a góalanic man of modest background and Zmarr, an úrúnic (specifically vakran) adventurer. Viklatos had gained higher status by rising through the ranks in army in Gívis' wars with the paþarían colonies in western Góalanis.

Religious Views

Knara adhered to traditional góalanic religion for the most part -often invoking the war goddess Asirkil-, though she also prayed to her ancestors in úrúnic fashion in private, and had a small mirror attached to her armour so they could witness her deeds in battle.
