The History of Adventures in Valerick TTRPG so far
The same species as now, though they were ruled by the Primordials. However so little is truly known about this time, and record of it was so thoroughly destroyed, that I will not put much here. Needless to say not all record is gone, but that is a long and winding plot to play, and would not be the subject of one campaign, but many for a group of players, not one set of characters. The Sundering did not just break society. It literally shredded, blended, and reforged the world.
Current Species & Cultures
Nine kingdoms exist, though they are united under a defense pact or confederation of sorts, paying homage to whomever holds the seat as Empress in Nightvale, whom at this time is Cyndra Fiorabrynd the III, Wielder of Solarion, she of the Phoenix, honored amongst the Ruby Order.
Suranth, the Tundra Realms: The kingdom founded by the dwarves, those kindred and descended of Sir Kartheart himself. They have a very structured, militant, pragmatic culture about them. The inventors of steam power, they have risen rapidly in prominence and power, as they power the continent's industrial revolution.
Depenwood, the Eternal Forest: The home of the Woad Elves, these woods are kept almost as a garden, and sustainability and maintaining the natural rhythm and balance are cultural ideals of great importance. The kingdom founded by the kindred to Talia the Lady of the Leaves herself.
Raechin, the Highland Home: Founded by the Koltani tribes of man, whom Boran the Bloodhound himself is tied to by lineage, this nation is built on principals of strength, honor, courage and stubbornness. The Koltani, though human, are hardy folk, bigger, stronger, and tougher than their cousins in Rohara or Mora.
Rohara, the Grassland Sea Plains and rolling hills dominate the landscape of this nation, founded by the descendants of Feyhart, the eternal traveler, the Mogols, a distinct branch of mankind known more for their stamina and riding ability, and their wanderlust than that of either of their cousins, the Koltani or the Renarii
Valewyr, the Sky Forest This nation of mountainous cloud forests and deep river valleys, highland scrubland and thick lowland marshes, was founded by the descendents and kindred of Vosana Falconhand, the Skye Elves. This nation is known for its difficulty to traverse by foot or even by rail, though Sky-ships find it a delight, as besides Waston, the birthplace of such technology, Valewyr has more skyports than any other nation-state on Valerick.
Susma, the Desert of Riches Though seemingly barren, this nation, nestled in the center of the continent, is a place built by those descendents of, and kindred to Varis Tomain, the Halflings, and its placement and key roads are why it thrives. It is a country of commerce, having not allied itself with the NPA or the STTA, the trade alliances that divide the continent north and south. The economic rivalry between Waston and Suranth is so fierce that trading directly with each other would be offensive. So naturally, neutrality allows this nation to capitalize, as they act as the go between, all while upcharging of course.
Kang-Chorath, the Endless Glades This nation of swampy everglade and jungle terrain, was founded by the Tantors, the descendents and kindred of Deat-Kra. A strange country to visit, for roads are few and far between, as naturally are rail yards or even areas where one could try and build rail-lines. Even Sky-Ports are rather few in number. The boat or ship is the most efficient and safest method of travel throughout this land.
Mora, the 'Free Trader' Republic: In true spirit of their Ascended Champion Captain Black Jeremiah, the Renarii peoples use a bit of silvery tongued language to describe what they truly are. Pirates. The Renarii are the third and final truly distinct subset of human, being different from their fellows, besides any physical differences in appearance, by being known for having a knack for sailing and swimming beyond normal. Some even claim Renarii babes can swim before they can walk. This jungle full of rivers and lakes, spilling out into a warm southern coast, is a place made for such a people, and they, and the culture they've built, thrive here. Even as, like all nations, they've become multi-racial and diversified.
Waston, birthplace of Smokepowder The hilly and mountainous jungles of Waston, a nation founded by the descendants and kindred of Cormaq Thunderhand, the gnomes. A nation founded on science and technology, innovation and experimentaton. Their claim to fame above all else? The birthplace of Smokepowder. Of firearms. This, along with being the birthplace of Magnetech Reactors, which are the power for the technology that is Sky-Ships, and many other associated pieces of impressive gear, weaponry and technology, have cemented them as Suranth's main economic rival in becoming the industrialization powerhouse on Valerick, as the continent pushes ever forward, and outwards, to tame the wild lands still left untouched, of which there are many (60-75% some guess, is still either totally unsettled and unexplored, or fringe frontier territory, continent wide.), and to revitalize and industrialize, moving into a new age of prosperity.
Needs & Relations
They all need each others commerce, and particular resources. However, three major alliances/trade agreements really paint the picture here.
NPA The Northern Prosperity Agreement, an agreement between Suranth, Depenwood, Rohara and Raechin, a detailed economic treaty, hefty and thick to read, insuring swift movement of goods that each nation wishes to trade and the others need. For example, Timber for Depenwood, Grain for Rohara, Ores for Suranth and Pelts/Leathers/Wool for Raechin.
STTA The Southern Trade and Transport Accords, an agreement solely created by Waston, and the other signataries convinced to sign via a variety of...methods, in response to Suranth's acceptance into the NPA in 1277. It does much the same thing for Kang-Chorath, Waston, Valewyr, and Mora that the NPA does for its members but with one added caveat. Morain 'free traders' aren't supposed to target ships from fellow member nations. Of course....that be more of a 'suggestion', of course.
HDP The Heartland Defense Pact, this alliance is seperate from the political nonsense of the STTA and the NPA, and has five members, along with being offically recognized as binding continent wide by Nightvale. The members are Valewyr, Depenwood, Kang-Chorath, Rohara and Susma, and the pact basically makes it a crime punishable by death to torch farmers fields, even if a conflict were to erupt between two members. This is because the region is the continent's bread basket, specifically the plains of Rohara, northern Kang-Chorath, and northern Susma. As such, if such tactics were to start being used, and escalated, it could cause a continent wide food shortage, and then of course...the beasts of the blackness, nor the Ruined Gods, would miss that opening.
