Shardborn Revenant

Shardborn Revenants are elite undead champions of the Iceshard Dominion, rarer and more powerful than Frostwights. Created through a forbidden fusion of cryomancy and soul-binding rituals, Revenants are former heroes, generals, or spellcasters who died in violence and were entombed in ice. Their souls were bound not merely to their corpses—but to glacial shards, turning them into eternal sentinels of frost and wrath.

They are bound to Queen Lysandra Coldveil by ancient pacts and the Scepter of Eternal Stillness, acting as her executioners, war-leaders, and enforcers.

Basic Information

Anatomy

  • Their bodies appear shattered, with cracks running across their skin like fractured stone. From these breaks, glacial shards jut out—jagged, luminous, and ever-cold.
  • Their eyes burn with a cold, intelligent blue flame, and their voices sound like wind tearing through frozen ravines.
  • Armor and weapons are often fused with cursed ice, eternally frozen yet unmelting even in volcanic heat.
  • Some carry banners of ancient legions, long forgotten by the living world.

Biological Traits

  • Glacial Rebirth:
If struck down, a Shardborn Revenant may reform over time, provided the core shard within its body remains intact. Destroying the body but not the shard may only delay its return.
  • Soul-Bound Might:
Each Revenant retains full tactical skill and magical ability from life, often augmented by necromantic and cryomantic enhancements.
A former pyromancer might wield frozen flame, while a knight swings a blade that drains warmth with every strike.
  • Shardstorm Pulse:
In battle, Revenants can unleash an explosion of razor-sharp ice shards, devastating surrounding foes. This ability is fueled by rage and ancient sorrow.
  • Command Aura:
Revenants exert a chilling presence over lesser undead, allowing them to lead Frostwights, Icewraiths, and bone-chilled minions with terrifying precision.
  • Bound Will:
Revenants are not mindless—they remember their deaths, their betrayals, and their lost causes. Their intelligence makes them cunning opponents and tragic figures.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

  • The Frost Elves revere Revenants as both cautionary tales and ancestral guardians—heroes twisted into icy echoes.
  • The living fear Revenants for their strategic brilliance and for the pain they still remember, which often drives them to poetic vengeance.
  • Legends say one Revenant, General Iskar the Shard-Blooded, weeps frozen tears when alone, remembering the people he once fought for.

History

A Revenant is created only under rare, controlled circumstances:

  • Chosen by Lysandra for their former greatness.
  • Their corpse must be interred in glacial ice for seven years, surrounded by cursed runes.
  • Their soul is then shattered and anchored to a soulshard, ensuring obedience and eternal hatred.

Many were once Lysandra’s enemies—turned into her eternal servants, their will enslaved but minds intact.
