Frostwight

Frostwights are undead entities created through the necromantic sorcery of Queen Lysandra Coldveil, animated by the will of the Iceshard Dominion. These creatures are former mortals—warriors, hunters, mages—who died in the icy grasp of the Iceshard Glacier and were reclaimed by freezing necromancy rather than laid to rest. Unlike mindless undead, Frostwights retain shadows of their former lives, twisted by pain, hatred, and hunger for warmth.

They are not merely raised corpses, but re-sculpted instruments of cold vengeance, enhanced by cryomantic energies and eternally bound to their queen’s will.

Basic Information

Anatomy

  • Skin frozen tight over gaunt, sharp bones; flesh tinged with blue and streaked with frostbite cracks.
  • Eyes glow with pale cyan or white fire—tiny, flickering embers of undeath in ice.
  • Many wear the remains of their former armor, fused to their skin by permafrost or replaced with ice-wrought plating.
  • Ice crystals often grow from their limbs or shoulders like unnatural bone spurs.
  • Their breath, if they have any, leaves no steam—only silence.

Biological Traits

  • Cryomantic Affliction:
Their attacks inflict supernatural cold, causing frostbite and slowing blood and reflexes. Even glancing blows can chill a victim to the core.
  • Frostbind Aura:
Each Frostwight radiates a zone of unnatural stillness, causing liquids to freeze, fires to sputter, and movement to become sluggish. Weaker creatures may freeze in place entirely when surrounded.
  • Soul-Echo Awareness:
Frostwights possess fragmented memories of their past lives. This gives them tactical insight and sometimes allows them to mock or torment their enemies by recalling shared history.
  • Unrelenting Hunger:
They are drawn instinctively to heat, life, and light, attempting to snuff them out wherever they appear. Frostwights often target torches, campfires, or the warmest-blooded foes first.
  • Servants of the Scepter:
Frostwights can be commanded directly by the Scepter of Eternal Stillness, obeying Lysandra's voice without question. Her presence intensifies their power.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

  • The Living fear Frostwights not only for their relentlessness but for their silence. Unlike other undead, they do not groan or wail—they move like a blizzard: quiet, lethal, and without mercy.
  • Some Frost Elves consider them sacred, believing the spirits of the honored dead live on within them.
  • Icebeasts and even Ice Drakes avoid Frostwight patrols instinctively, sensing something profoundly unnatural in them.

History

Most Frostwights were either:

  • Slain invaders who perished in the Iceshard Glacier and were reclaimed as icy sentinels.
  • Volunteers who offered their souls to Lysandra in exchange for eternal purpose.
  • Victims of the Rite of the Deep Call, whose final breath was stolen by cold magic and who rose as Frostwights days later.
