Fire Dragon
Fire Dragons are towering, majestic creatures with scales that shimmer like molten metal—shades of crimson, bronze, and obsidian, flickering with internal heat. Their eyes glow like coals, and smoke often curls from their nostrils even when at rest. A Fire Dragon's wings are broad and leathery, veined with glowing lines of magma-like energy. Their claws and horns are obsidian black, capable of tearing through stone and steel alike.
Their presence alone raises the ambient temperature—grass scorches beneath their feet, and the air around them hums with oppressive warmth and the scent of sulfur.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Breath Weapon – Inferno Jet:
A concentrated stream of superheated flame, capable of melting metal, vaporizing water, and turning forest to ash in seconds. Some Fire Dragons can control the spread of their breath, using it to create walls of fire or firestorms.
Molten Blood:
Their blood is molten-hot. When wounded, sprays of this blood can ignite surroundings or burn attackers. Legends say their hearts can be used to forge unbreakable flame-bound weapons.
Pyromantic Affinity:
Fire Dragons possess innate magical control over heat, fire, and combustion. Older Fire Dragons can summon volcanic eruptions, turn lava rivers, or call down flaming meteors in battle.
Aura of Flame:
At full strength, the air around a Fire Dragon ripples with heatwaves, and mundane fire cannot harm or resist them. Prolonged proximity can exhaust or scald lesser beings.
Ecology and Habitats
Fire Dragons typically dwell in volcanoes, lava tubes, burned-out mountains, or in the heart of Emberfall—a volcanic region scarred by past dragon wars. Their lairs are often fortified by walls of obsidian, rivers of magma, and the bones of would-be challengers.
Their hoards are vast, containing melted relics, sunfire gems, and forged gold, often infused with elemental fire essence.
Behaviour
Fire Dragons are known for their pride, temper, and intense willpower. They often view themselves as agents of change and destruction, forces that purge weakness through flame. They are territorial, immensely intelligent, and value power above all else—whether physical, magical, or political.
While many are destructive tyrants, some take on the role of purifiers or keepers of ancient truths, believing fire to be both a cleansing and illuminating force. They may forge uneasy alliances with mortals if it serves their purpose—or if a mortal has earned their rare respect.
Civilization and Culture
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Among dragons, Fire Dragons are considered noble yet volatile. Some dragon cultures view them as revered elders who embody the primeval power of the world’s birth-throes. Others see them as dangerous heretics, especially among the colder dragon kin like Ice Drakes or Storm Serpents.
Myths tell of the Great Flamefather, the first Fire Dragon born from the heart of the world, whose roar cracked the crust of the earth and birthed volcanoes.
Fire Dragons often pass down their legacy through Trial by Flame, challenging successors to survive their fury to earn the right to rule, wield power, or claim knowledge.
