Blackroot Spire
Rising like a necrotic fang from the heart of Blackthorn Keep, Blackroot Spire is a fusion of petrified timber, fossilized sinew, and cursed bone, grown and shaped by centuries of druidic necromancy and ritual grafting. The spire is not merely built—it is alive in a dormant, brooding sense, humming faintly with buried whispers and feeding on the residual lifeforce of the land beneath it.
Purpose / Function
The Blackroot Spire is both a tower and a tomb—a monument to transformation through death. It is where policy, prophecy, and power intertwine in whispered counsel, and it reminds all who enter that death is not an end in the Thornveil, but the beginning of service everlasting.
Alterations
The Council Sanctum – The Hollow Chamber
- Located at the peak of the Spire, the Hollow Chamber is a vast, circular room surrounded by seven funerary thrones shaped from fused bone, ashwood, and rotglass—each reserved for a member of the Hollow Council.
- Ancient oaths and funereal scripture wind across the walls like black vines, glowing faintly when spoken aloud by the council.
- The Throne of Hollow Silence dominates the center—a towering seat of fused roots and soulstone, bound to King Daerion’s will. It is not merely symbolic; it connects directly to the lifeblood of the Thornveil, allowing the king to feel the decay of his domain and hear the silent mourning of the dead.
Architecture
- Structure: The spire coils upward like a strangling vine, its surface ridged with gnarled roots and twisted vertebrae. Thorny branches protrude like skeletal ribs, some bearing withered blossoms or bone-lanterns fueled by soulflame.
- Walls: Inside, the walls are veined with dark sap and embedded with ossified faces—some screaming, others serene. These are remnants of offerings, traitors, and volunteers, all merged into the spire as part of its eternal construction.
- Sound: A still silence dominates within. Spoken words echo unnaturally, muted by wards of the Hollow Council. The tower resists shouts or cries; sound within becomes solemn, inevitable, and grave
Defenses
- Memory-Binding: Echoes of every council meeting are imprinted in the spire’s living root-core, accessible only by necrotic communion or deep meditation.
- Ward of Whispers: No sound made within the Hollow Chamber may be heard beyond it—not even by magical means.
- Rejection of False Life: Any being not bound by death, decay, or the Thornveil is slowly weakened in the Spire, as the structure exudes a spiritual rejection of the unmarked living.
