Elydran Vehl, the Chain-Tongued

Wraith-Vicar; Apostle of the Hollow Creed; Keeper of the Forgotten Name Elydran Vehl

Elydran Vehl drifts rather than walks, his incorporeal form veiled in torn priestly vestments from an age no one recalls. Long, rusted funerary chains bind his soul to his shattered bones, which hover within a translucent husk of spirit-light. The chains clatter with every word, each link etched with forgotten prayers, heretical oaths, and sigils from dozens of extinct faiths.

Once the high priest of a dead god whose name has been expunged from memory by his own doing, Elydran now serves undeath itself—preaching a creed of eternal stillness, divine silence, and transformation through devotion to the dominion of rot and bone.

Physical Description

Special abilities

  • Chains of Faith: Elydran can extend or manipulate his chains to bind spirits, drag memories from corpses, or silence enemies mid-ritual.
  • Excommunication: With a single word, he can sever a creature's connection to divine magic, leaving clerics and paladins faithless husks.
  • Spectral Benediction: Grants spiritual protection to undead followers, allowing them to resist banishment, holy fire, or consecration.
  • Liturgies of the Lost: His voice carries across realms, speaking to the newly dead and luring them toward the Thornveil’s creed.

Personality Characteristics

Representation & Legacy

Elydran is a haunting presence, equal parts reverent and menacing. He rarely uses names—referring to others by their roles, destinies, or sins. He speaks in layered whispers and echoes, as if multiple versions of himself recite the same sermon at once. His doctrine teaches that undeath is not a curse, but a sacrament, and that true freedom lies in devotion beyond the grave.

Though he holds no living congregation, his influence is immense; many of Thornveil’s most devout liches, husks, and mourn-priests were personally indoctrinated by him. He keeps no quarters, instead resting upright in a shrine of rusted altars, surrounded by shriveled books and softly weeping skulls.

Some say Elydran still remembers the name of his dead god, but will never speak it—for doing so would unmake what he has become.

Social

Contacts & Relations

As the spiritual voice of the Thornshroud Dominion, the Wraith-Vicar guides rituals of unbinding, initiations into the death cults, and indoctrination of newly risen revenants. He leads chants in the Chapel of Quiet Flame, where the air hangs heavy with incense and soul-ash.

Elydran also oversees the binding of oaths and souls, ensuring that those sworn into the Dominion’s service in life continue their purpose in undeath. It is said that his whispers can cause zealotry to bloom in the hollowed minds of the dead, filling them with divine purpose even after the heart has stilled.
