Dukedom: Crestos

Crestos is a dukedom of the Arcanaan Empire and a former kingdom pre-empire long-ruled by House Petra. The Petras bent the knee to Antony Viscus (Anselm I) in 1012 B.A. They were one of the four great families that attended the Summit of the Four and argued in favor of unification under an empire. The Petras have always remained loyal supporters of the crown, but ever since the brutal end of Gabriel's Revolt in 322 B.A., the family has been critical of the continued oppression of chimeras as slaves. Previous Petra Dukes have argued in open forum at Arcana's imperial court for changing laws concerning slavery. Though they have always been cautious to never call for full abolishment, savvily avoiding suspicion of treason, they have advocated for systems like indentured servitude—not unlike Nasir's system.

Pre-Empire

Established circa 1390-1380 B.A., Crestos was known then as Kor Túath, or the kingdom of Kor. In the 1300's the first ancestors of House Petra, beginning with Feradach Ó Petráin, according to some accounts, was elected by a moot of the early Anic tribes as king over the túath in order to quell post-Fall regional infighting.   Most of Kor's food production was reliant on aquaculture, thus creating a high demand of competent sailors and large fleets of ships. Following the unification of Kor, the kingdom was known for its naval supremacy and boasted fleets that eclipsed its rival kingdom across the Emerald Gulf, Ebrius. However, after the War of Retribution, control of the empire's navy was deligated to mostly Ebrian admirals, as their naval ports were better positioned for maintaining defensive blockades against Nasirian raid fleets. Still, a majority of imperial naval vessels were and are commanded by Crestosian captains and of Crestocian design.

Geography

Situated on the southern stretch of Abia's western coast, below Lornaris, Crestos is a temperate region with dense evergreen forests at the foot of the Blue Mountains, with rocky pastures and cliffscapes dominating the southern coast. Extensive limestone deposits near the surface of the plains, leaving thin amounts of soil and fast, short-lived grass species, make the land more suitable for grazing instead of growing. As such, Crestosians have long been hunter-gatherers, cattle farmers, and fishers, relying on crop farming less than their regional neighbors.    The dukedom shares borders with Lornaris in the northwest, and Meloir in the northeast. It also shares the waters of the Emerald Gulf with Ebrius across and to the east. The Arcana holding of Pavicile lies at the mouth of the Vahn River, which serves as the border between Crestos and Meloir.

Kor Kýmatos

The Anic name Kor Kýmatos means literally "Kor's capital". It was the seat of one of Abia's earliest human kingdoms and the home of all elected Anic kings. It began initially as an all-human settlement during the Void Years. Unlike many of the cities that have survived to the modern era, it was not built upon the foundations of chimeric ruins. All architecture in Kor Kýmatos is entirely of human design.

"We are the ocean's fury."
