Northern League
"The most honourable league of equal and free princes united for the common purpose of resisting outside aggression" is a military and diplomatic alliance of around a dozen small and mid-sized countries on the northern coast of Khandar and on the islands off its coast. The organizations main goal is to preserve their independence in the face of Khandari efforts to absorb them into their empire.
Pergina is a prominent member of the League, and its queen is the current "chairwoman" of the organization.
The Evonian Republic is a prominent supporter of the League.
Demography and Population
The league states are generally small, but highly urbanized. More than a third of the population resides in cities or towns. Humans are the most common group, but elves, halflings and gnomes form significant minorities. Orcs are banned from taking permanent residence in league states. This was a condition of the League's alliance with the Evonian Republic.
Territories
The League territories lie on the northern coast of Khandar, and on the islands immediately offshore. Many of the League members are city states whose territories end almost at their own city walls, surrounded by Khandari lands. The island kingdom of Pergina is the largest of the League member, and the de-facto leader of the coalition.
Military
Each league member is contractually obliged to maintain a certain number of men and ships equipped to a common standard. Trainers from the Republic are present in many of the League states to strengthen these members' armies. The on-paper strenght of the League is 50.000 infantry, 10.000 cavalry and 200 warships.
Religion
The League is particularly religious diverse. Because of its location it is a melting pot of different faiths and philosophies.
Foreign Relations
The League was formed in direct opposition to the Empire of Khandar. Several wars have been fought between the league and their southern neighbor.
The league is a close ally of the Evonian Republic. The Republic sees the expansion of Khandar as a potential threat. The League serves are a useful bulwark.
Individual League members have various alliance and rivalries with the many nearby free cities.
