Mizpah

You ever notice how elves who set themselves up as kings always try to recreate Axendria in miniature. Makes me wonder why they didn't just stay home...

Demographics

The population mostly human, with an elven upper class. There are also a number of halflings, gnomes and dwarves present in the town, with a scattering from other races.

Government

Formally the city is part of the personal domain of the regina. However its day to day affairs are overseen by representatives aedils. These officials are supposedly elected, but are effectivly appointed by the regina. The guilds of the city also participate in the running of the city through the City Council. The council is an advisory body, but is normally granted extensive autonomy to handle the internal affairs of the members of the guilds.

Districts

The city has several districts. The most notable of which are:    HIGHTOWN  The wealthiest and most prestigious part of town. The Palace is located here, along with the residences of the elven nobility. Administrative buildings and offices can be found here as well.    LOWTOWN  Above the harbour lies lowtown where most of the common labourers and day-workers live. This part of town retains a level of wealth and comfort in excess of many other cities, but poverty is still rife.    THE DIVISION The division is a small valley between Lowtown and Hightown. The area is inhabited by those too poor or of the wrong race to reside in hightown, but too wealthy to live in lowtown. Well off guildmembers, skilled artisans, army officers and others of this sort can be foound in the Division.    THE MARKET DISTRICT The area surrounding the Grand Market is the economic heart of the city. Here there are guildhalls, shops and workshops aplenty.    The Academy of High Reason Located on the Bald-Isl across the student's span this area of the city hosts the city's famous academy of high reason and the housing, labratories, offices and workshops of its students and scholars. The low magics, along with all sorts of natural philosophies and technical arts can be learned here.
