Arcrystals - Lore

The first piece of the Awakened World. Believed to be gifted to the mortals by Mara, Goddess of Innovation during the early years of the Age of Discovery, these crystals have the capability to contain magic, spells, and energy within them, then being able to have them excavated later. The science behind these crystals is only understood by the brightest minds, and the levels of intricacy dictate the strength of these crystals. While commoners may only hear of them through rumors, the higher classes relish in having many low-strength Arcrystals in their daily life; usually being able to "cast" some form of cantrip. The higher strength ones are of mystery and very rarely spoken of, if they exist. Arcrystals have paved the way to create extravagant pieces of technology. They also have made new sciences easier to obtain, like steam/hydro power, or even gunpowder and combustion found in Firearms.

Manufacturing

The shells are mostly manufactured by Wawic, while the arcrystals which hold higher-end spells are on the eastward side of the world, namely Wistrow, The City Beneath the Arc.

Access & Availability

There are many different forms of the crystal: some used as a battery, while others hold and transfer magic. Some of the common forms of the crystals are accessible to most people, the lowest form of the crystal is just its shell, which needs to then be implanted with energy or magic. Even then, the shells can be fairly expensive.

Complexity

Arcrystals are the most complex piece of technology in Acrine, mostly due to their mysterious origin and composition. While being able to be manufactured, the true natural arcrystals have never been truly replicated.

Discovery

Discovered in the geographic middle of The Triumvir's Triarchy, after the The Fog of Tai dissipated. The discoverers themselves are unknown, but it is believed they took the crystals to Wawic.
