Melinoë, Goddess of Nightmares

Down there, it's what even I find scary! I do have to give props to Melinoë for being able to tolerate, let alone obsess over that place. Leave it for a daughter of Hades to get that kind of crap done. So cool!
- Hypnos , God of Sleep
One of the locked away deities of the forgotten realm of Chthonia, Melinoë is the Goddess of Nightmares. Many associate her with the instance of having a nightmare, but she has domain over the monsters found in nightmares. Representing dark fiends, similar in nature to demons, a Nightmare is simply the personified fears of oneself, turning into the scariest form found in one's dreams. Melinoë acts as the guardian of the material plane against those creatures, from letting them escape the Hollow Abyss, or any other demiplane that acts as a barrier for these creatures. Despite this, the Goddess loves traversing these dark lands, reflecting on the nightmares of anybody on the material plane. She calls herself a huntress, mainly for sport against anything she find below in the Abyss. Despite her eager, easily-excited nature, she prefers to go for more subtle methods to traversing the Hollow Abyss. She sticks to corners, thick terrain that she can hide in, and other areas like previously mentioned. Preferably, Melinoë enjoys traversing the land by herself, but has often decided to take along her close friends, in particular being Hypnos , or Nemesis. She has never taken them both at the same time, as Hypnos is too lazy to be directly attacking any monster they find, like how Nemesis does so. Nemesis refuses to go with Hypnos' plans as they often involve patience and waiting a long time in the Hollow Abyss. It depends on Melinoë's mood on who she brings with her. Usually though, it is a journey she takes alone. She keeps on going on these long, expansive adventures, for fun, mostly. However, she also does it as a clause to also having minor domain as the Goddess of Madness, due to the nature of her wanderlust, wishing to constantly explore this ancient, unknown world beneath the land of Chthonia.
As a deity, Melinoë does not often commune with her worshippers. Alas, as she was imprisoned on Chthonia for quite a while, her actions are only now being seen properly upon the general public of the material plane. The dead within Chthonia however see her as a guardian, keeping them safe from worse horrors than they can even imagine. However, nobody has been able to assign a depiction onto her that matches her favoured form. This means that Melinoë is able to mix in with their small settlements whenever she pleases. Ultimately, Melinoë takes on a pale form, akin to that of a Tiefling . To keep with her journeys into the abyss, Melinoë prefers to wear a roguish attire, due to it's flexibility and selection of places to keep trinkets and artifacts she may find within her journeys. Sometimes, the Goddess likes to steal from wandering adventurers, just to provide a sense of adventure both for herself and others. As for her equipment, despite her godly powers, she wields a simple curved sword, embedded with a few runes from constellations of above. This sword though, through time, has developed into a legendary item, made to do well against denizens of the Hollow Abyss. Her powers from being a Goddess include access to many spells, including Crown of Madness and Prismatic Wall, as well as the ability to cast most of these at will.
During the events of the Elder Dragon, Malus' attempt of wiping out Aitso to make his empire reign across all of the world, Melinoë had entertained herself by stealing a key from adventurers, barring them from Eurydice's Domain. She would be under the guise of her tiefling self, and due to not being found out until much later, to be the Goddess of Nightmares, just after the same adventurers attempted to enter the Hall of the Chthonic Gods. In return, all she wished was for the adventurers to explore the Hollow Abyss, all for fun. After their return, she bid them a granting into the hall, and then joined them in the fight of Ashfang's Assualt on Chthonia .
