Public Agenda

The Trade Council's charge is to advice the crown on public policy - especially as it relates to commerce. They ensure that policies do not negatively affect the economy of Havere and the wealth continues to flow into the city and the pockets of its citizens.

History

The trade council was formed in 4602 after a series of uninspired taxes and tariffs from the crown greatly affected profits and cash inflow into the kingdom. Pleas from the traders at the time lead the King to form the trade council which was charged with advising the crown on policies that would promote commerce and economic activity.   At first the council was informal, but with the increased political infighting and subterfuge happening among the various businesses all vying for the Crown's attention, the King decided to formalize the council and create a procedure for those who would be invited to it.   Many many years later as the size of Havere heaved outside of the the original city's wall, and regulating commerce in the city and the realm became increasingly more difficult and time consuming, the then King of Havere, King Garcon Du Mer delegated the responsibility to regulate commerce to the trade council. From then on, the trade council was able to create policy, levy taxes and tariffs, demand inspections, subsidize farmers, and had other powers - with the permission of the crown which retained a veto power. To make sure that with this new power the council would always be in check, the King Garcon declared that the steward of the kingdom's coin - the Royal Minister of Trade - always be a member of the council.   The council is always the center of all politics in Havere with various organizations fighting to replace one or more members. Most recently, Winktod Gasketank replaced Vidal Larue by making Immaculate Textiles the largest textile operation in Terdiore.
