Havere Chapter 2, Session 2: Trying the Goods Report

General Summary

The party recovers after a long night with the Church of the Passion. , , Xenia, and Belinda all receive invitations to worship with the church in three days at Le Phare Rochegris - an old, restored lighthouse in the Southern Outer City.   On the way back to base, Findley finds a drug dealer in the outer city and expresses interest in offloading a large quantity of Skooma. He gives the man a sample and tells him the location of their base. Findley also stops by Little Town to check up on Gus, the Pig. He's perfectly fine. The Gnome caretaker expresses that there will not be enough money to cover board for the pig by the end of the week which is not a problem since the fence around the base should be finished by then.   When all of the four party members who participated in the orgy return to the base, now named Le Manoir des Vomissements, the crystal ball in Greg's pack starts to pulsate with a blue light and chime. When Greg touches it, he is astral projected into a dark location where he is met by a male Drow and a female elvish-looking woman. The Drow is angry that Thordus Blackfoot has not reported on the status of the negotiations with the Duergar Commander. Greg pretends to be Thordus's underling and deflects the fact that Thordus is physically unable to answer the call. The Drow tells Greg to have Thordus contact the other two in an hour.   Now realizing the crystal ball is a communication device to whom the party believes to be the other leaders of the Black Heart, Greg spends the next hour attuning himself to the device. Two hours pass, and Greg summons the Elves back to the astral conference room. He explains that the hideout was attacked by the Brotherhood in Arms, and that Thordus perished in the attack. The two Elves seem incredulous but tell Greg that they believe him, and that they will contact him and his cell for future instructions. Greg convinces them to meet face-to-face in two days time at the warehouse the Church of the Passion uses for their recruitment parties. The Elves agree and hang up.   Afterward, the party decides to try and scout out the lighthouse before the services. They easily find it without any issue. Belinda uses her fly familiar to fly into and around the structure. She discovers that there is a single priest inside writing what seems to be a sermon for the next worship. The fly finds a trap door on the roof, and the whole party decides that they should see if it allows ingress into the lighthouse.   Murgan makes a great throw and manages to attach a grappling hook to the roof. The party climbs up, but Findley is almost spotted by the priest inside but is able to evade his gaze just in time.   At the top, the party finds that the trap door is barred closed, and decide not to break it down. Murgan hides a javelin and Greg hides a dagger on the roof just in case they'll need it for later.   Being satisfied with their accomplishments in scouting, the party decides to play a trick on the priest inside. Findley wild shapes into an octopus and climbs down to where the priest can see him. As soon as he notices, Greg casts a minor illusion to make the octopus look like diety while Belinda uses a message spell to speak into the priests mind. The three of them convince him that a person matching Findley's description is "the chosen one," but doesn't give much more than that. Scared and confused out of his wits the priests, accepts the "revelation."   On they way back from the Le Phare Rochegris, Gregg hires three people to try and see where they can offload some of the skooma they had acquired from their exploits against The Black Heart. A paper bird also arrives from "Dana" which reads:
"What makes you guys think that I have any connections left after you murdered them all at Blackfoot's lair?!? Fuck you all. Contact me when you have something actually important for me to do. ~D"
When they return, the party realizes that they're eating and sleeping on the floor, and now that the locks to the outer doors work, that its time to go buy some furniture. Surprisingly, they go to the furniture shop that they know is a front for the Black Hearts illicit businesses. They notice some of the workers there are members of the gang, but don't do anything. Instead, they bargain with the salesman to completely furnish the house with medium-grade furniture. The salesman says that it will take at least a week to deliver the full order, but that he would deliver what he had in stock the following day.   The party dines on lamb wellington and sleeps on the floor.   The next day, with nothing to do, the majority of the party decides to test the skooma they stole. They all crowd into Belinda's secret room out of the sight of the general contractors (and Nena). Half of them (Belinda, Greg, and Carnival) become addicted.   Murgan, being the upstanding half-orc citizen that he is, abstains from the party favors and decides to go see if anything is happening in the city. As he walks towards the market, he is passed by a several squadrons of Harbor Watchmen heading to the Outer City. He tries to ascertain what that was about and learns that a gang war has broken out in the Outer City. The rumors stated that the Brotherhood in Arms attacked a Black Heart stronghold, and the Black Heart retaliated. Dozens are dead, and the war wages under the cover of darkness. Consequently, the Watch dispatched troops to the Outer City to help keep the peace leaving the Inner City less protected.   That afternoon, now coming down from his intoxication, Greg returns to the Outer City to check up on his informants. All of his informants failed to gather any useful information because of the gang war.
