Temporary Encampment

Overview

Nestled at the base of Wurgar, the Temporary Encampment is a cruel mockery of its name. Originally intended as a transient holding ground for captives brought to the Godless Lands, the encampment has persisted for generations, evolving into a grim, sprawling settlement of oppression and suffering. Made from the dark, brittle wood of crow bush trees, its makeshift structures provide little protection from the elements or the relentless eyes of the Disciples’ enforcers.

The encampment serves as both a labor force for Wurgar’s expansion and a breeding ground for new generations born into captivity. Though some captives have earned their way into the ranks of Wurgar’s lower class by adopting the doctrines of Chaos, for most, the promise of freedom is an illusion. The Temporary Encampment stands as a testament to broken spirits, yet within its shadowed alleys, whispers of resistance refuse to be silenced.

History and Purpose

The exact date of the encampment’s founding is unknown, but it has existed since the earliest days of Wurgar’s construction. As the Disciples’ conquests spread across Herja, captured survivors were funneled into the encampment, stripped of identity and purpose, and set to work in the most menial and grueling tasks required by the city above. Initially thought to be a temporary solution for managing captives, the encampment has persisted far beyond its original intent, evolving into a permanent fixture of Chaos’ dominion.

Generations have passed within its confines, with entire families born into servitude under the watchful eyes of the Overseers. The word “Temporary” has become a bitter joke among the captives, a constant reminder of their perpetual suffering.

Life in the Encampment

Life in the Temporary Encampment is a relentless cycle of toil and survival. Captives are assigned daily tasks dictated by the needs of Wurgar, ranging from gathering resources to constructing siege weaponry in the Ashen Forges. Food is scarce, allotted only in accordance with productivity, and punishments for disobedience are swift and brutal.

Despite this, a semblance of society has formed within the encampment. Families have taken root, passing down the silent traditions of those who once lived free. Secret gatherings share stories of a world beyond the Godless Lands, kindling the fading embers of hope. Some captives barter what little they have in underground markets, while others plot escape, though few ever succeed.

The Path to Indoctrination

While most captives are doomed to a life of labor, the Disciples offer an alternative—indoctrination. Those who fully embrace the doctrines of Chaos, often through years of servitude and brainwashing, are granted the dubious privilege of “citizenship” within Wurgar. These individuals are given roles as Betrayers, Overseers, or minor bureaucrats within the city, forever marked by the stigma of those who abandoned their past for survival.

Security and Control

The Temporary Encampment is tightly controlled by a brutal hierarchy of Overseers, many of whom were once captives themselves. These enforcers, loyal to the Disciples, ensure absolute obedience through fear and violence. Any sign of rebellion is crushed before it can spread, and would-be escapees are made examples of in public executions.

The encampment’s layout is designed to prevent escape, with narrow, maze-like corridors leading only toward checkpoints guarded by Chaos Orc Slaves. Watchtowers loom over the settlement, their occupants scanning for signs of unrest. Even the landscape conspires against the captives, as the ashen soil offers little refuge for those who attempt to flee.

Legacy

The Temporary Encampment stands as a dark testament to Chaos’ dominion. It is a place where hope is a liability, yet defiance still flickers in the hearts of those who refuse to break. Whether it remains an eternal scar upon the land or one day falls to the weight of its own cruelty is a fate yet to be written.

In the shadow of Wurgar, they wait—not to be freed, but to be forgotten.
