The Grey Cabal

They exist! I know it! I can prove it! They sit their in the palaces and play us from the shadows! They're turning the freaking frogs grey!
— A well informed Individual
People believe in many things. Gods, mythical creatures, fate, luck the list could go on for hours. Some believe that the world is secretly controlled from the shadows. That all events and occurences are the work of some sworn cabal of immensly powerful individuals that work towards some unknown goal. Whatever that is differs from person to person, but rarely is it good. In some cases it is nothing less than the complete annihilation of humanity, in others a kafkaesque scheme to make more money.   One of the most widespread of these myths is the tale of the Grey Cabal. They are a group of seven individuals, each a man or woman of immense power and wealth. They only show themselves in their grey cloaks and do rarely appear outside of their great palaces. Said palaces are placed in remote valleys, small pieces of paradise where everything is bountiful. Protected by many dangers, both natural and manmade, these palaces are utterly impenetrable. From there the Cabal communicates via a strange, mind-based technology. Said to be older than the Old World, they are stearing humanity toward some unknown goal. Some claim that they strive towards godhood, others that they simply content with playing the world like a game of chess.   Whoever comes close to realising their existence will be met by an accident sooner or later. A notion that is rather paradoxical when you consider that there are quite a few people who appear to possess knowledge of the Cabal and their dealings.
Debate rarely manages to bring them off their opinion. Truth is a maleable thing and every human can have a different definiton.
