Vespula
Vespula are a subspecies of Myacoris, who live by the Black Queen Law. They are often aggressive and solitary just as often as they're social and organized. They often try to subjugate Myacoris tribes, but also face a lower barrier to parasitism, hence they become very territorial and fierce.
Who are they and what do they look like?
- They are fairly tall and lean more toward hourglass shaped bodies
- Their hair varies from light to dark, it is thick and teased and often enhanced with accessories
- Their eyes range from compound to simple
What are their senses or perceptions?
- They often have poor eyesight and rely on sense of smell
- However, they can see ultraviolet an can thus detect things with accuracy in certain cases, making them amazing tailors, foragers, and crafters
- A lot of them reproduce asexually and spend time modifying their bodies since they don't need to use sexual reproduction,
Where are they in your setting?
- They are everywhere but the far north, as they tend to need hotter temperatures for their young, though they have been migrating northward (some tribes)
- Large populations in Kargast and Karkebi, Wychazel, Sealtland, Eskern, and Pestillentia
- They were mostly hunted out of areas with large concentrations of hunting Kubeleya like Dolomedes and Phoneutria
How do they survive in their environment?
- They form tight knit communities
- Extremely resourceful and can survive off of a single forest all year
- Can live in most temperate to warm areas, some can even withstand the cold
- Parasitic in nature, unafraid to exploit nature to survive
- Extremely powerful with Citron magic
What is their general attitude?
- Competitive and cutthroat
- Very resourceful
- Protective of their territory
- Very interested in technology and magitech
How do they feel about the other peoples?
- See other Myacoris as inferior to them, often engage in parasitic slavery
- Would kill a Gannwyll Gwydd if they could, but recognize them as a threat
- Some of those who settled in the Heno Empire became more amicable to other peoples
- They get along best with the Sindainox, Hexen, and the desert Kubeleya due to the mutually assured destruction clause
Basic Information
Anatomy
Their organs are formed with internal structures which store and convert waste into nutrients. Magic can strengthen these gall structures, as can a symbiotic support, which is often an internal parasite that makes these galls. Most people are born with one and it is basically their immune system.
Genetics and Reproduction
Depending on the tree they take on, they produce different galls, including apples, plums, and medlars. When they become trees they can become huge and these reproductions can be queens who pioneer communities.
Growth Rate & Stages
Vespula have different adaptations and growth rates.
They can enter a state of dormancy that allows them to regrow limbs and/or new growths around their organs. This period of approximately 9-20 years where the ovum (the body, but this can be male or female or asexual) becomes a tree using their body's secretions. The galls which form on their branches can either be left to grow into offspring or food depending on if they are fertilized.
The longer they go on, however, the less their chances are of coming out of their sleep. When they are younger their reproductive cycles are about 9 years, but once very few galls form, it's very likely that they will remain a tree. Their average life expectancy is about twice that of modern humans, with the oldest having lived to ~300 but in extreme circumstances. The average age is between 120-160 years.
